“While the Americans may be within their rights to initiate fire-range activities, I think normative diplomatic relations between the two countries should call for, and demand, that there be consultation,” Segal said Thursday.
The proposal would lead to 34 live-fire practice ranges, which would host ships that have machine-guns firing up to 650 rounds a minute. One of the ranges is 20 kilometres south of Wolfe Island.
On Tuesday night, city council passed a resolution that officially condemned the lack of consultation. It raises concerns over possible water quality problems caused by the lead ammunition, and damage to the recreational boating industry.

As George W. Bush stated the United States of America will not abide by any trade agreement, treaty or international law that undermines the national interests of the United States of America. The real issue is that the U.S. has too great of a hand in framing international trade rules and laws, which it uses to ensure that its own producers and national interests are somehow insulated from the tough realities that it recommends for others. It is in the end a commitment to getting other countries to give American producers access to their markets, to conform to U.S. interests and the U.S. reciprocates when it is convenient. This is due to a lack of checks and balances that other countries in the world have to entice them to keep an even keel on their trade agreements and national interests.
Canadian Prime Minister Harper believes that the more he gives the United States of America’s Government the more the U.S. Administration will look favorably to Canadian interests, wants and desires. As with Ambassador Cellucci, Ambassador Wilkens has proven time and again that the United States of America can be critical of Canada and Canadians, not to mention do as they wish with Canadians and Canadian sovereignty but Canada and Canadians better think twice as to doing the same to them. Remember you are either with us or against us. As Ambassador Wilkens puts it - friends don’t "criticize" , to judge or discuss the merits and faults, of friends.
