This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new organization that is already garnering national attention. It's also a chance to get involved with an organization that is open to new ideas and original thinking, and is committed to social responsibility and democracy.
Board members are expected to:
1) Visit the website regularly and generally remain aware of the activity on the site (members, type of material posted, etc) whether or not you post material or comments there. Promote the site to personal contacts, friends, business contacts, and act as a representative of the site whenever possible.
2) Check email regularly (absolute minimum once or twice a week, ideally at least once a day). Be comfortable using the computer for day-to-day communication and for monthly board meetings via IRC.
3) Make an effort to attend meetings, respond to email messages from other board members, and generally participate in a collective decision-making process.
4) Contribute special skills to the running of the organization--e.g. financial, fundraising, managing, technical, etc. In some cases, handle a specific responsibility (such as treasurer, etc).
5) Contribute ideas for development of the site and organization.
6) Help recruit other board members and talented volunteers to the site.
If you are interested in a position on our board, please send a cover letter and resume to: board@vivelecanada.ca. Be sure to use the word "application" in the subject line.
Board positions are open to all citizens, landed immigrants or residents of Canada over 18 and bondable. Women, minorities, and differently abled persons are encouraged to apply; we maintain a policy of non-discrimination.
We are also open to recruiting people with varying levels of experience and will consider university students. We will also consider all professional backgrounds but are most interested in those persons with some management, non-profit, or activist experience, or expertise in the fields listed above.
