Canada: A Galloping Police State?

Posted on Thursday, June 22 at 08:39 by Diogenes
The June 2 arrests were done with massive police involvement. Snipers on rooftops, in full glare of the notified-in-advance media, guaranteed 24-hour TV coverage and screaming headlines, topped off by a full court press conference by the CSIS and the RCMP. A full-fledged national crisis was born, fueled by rumours and fear. Our whole national security was at stake, and Islam, and to a lesser degree, multiculturalism, was to blame, for enabling such individuals to function underneath our very noses. A new term, home-grown terrorists, was slammed into our vocabulary overnight. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=viewArticle&code=REP20060619&articleId=2668 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on June 22, 2006]

<i> Snipers on rooftops, in full glare of the notified-in- advance media, guaranteed 24-hour TV coverage and screaming headlines, topped off by a full court press conference by the CSIS and the RCMP.</i><p>It's reading stuff like this that makes me appreciate how the TV in my house only gets turned on to check the weather or is sometimes tuned in to a music channel. Just reading the press is depressing enough. Will (Have ?) Canadians become numbed and dumbed from too much TV as did their American counterparts ? <p> My advice to all Canadians is turn off the TV and start thinking for yourself !<p>---<br>« Il y a une belle, une terrible rationalité dans la décision d'être libre. » - Gérard Bergeron <br />

I watch about 1/2 an hour of the local news, that's it. I only watch Newsworld if it has a particularly good documentary on it, but they've killed the Passionate Eye so I rarely stop there now, either.

I don't watch WWF wrestling, something that I think should be banned from tv anyway. I feel the same about Fox (Faux) 'News'. CNN I gave up on after the first gulf war (actually during. The flag-waving was too sickening to watch).

I was reading BBC News on the web, but I soon got the impression that they have become essentially a 'state-run tabloid news magazine'. I'm surprised they don't have a 'Page 3 web-girl of the day' up on there yet.

I was reading the Guardian, which is a better British news org, but it is still heavily slanted and frequently just re-gurgitates AP propaganda releases.

Right now the only place I get honest news is Democracy Now by Amy Goodman. She reports the good and the bad, very fairly.

When I imagine myself in the position of one of these security people, RCMP, CSIS, local police force, I cannot imagine what it would take for some superior to convince me that setting someone up or treating people that I was hired to protect the way these thugs are doing. What kind of people are actually being hired into our security forces today? Where are the approachable RCMP we had when I was a kid? No one dressed all in black and wore sunglasses giving an inhuman look to themselves. These getups make me think "robot" or "army ant" and make way for suspicions of meglomaniacs being put in positions of power. How has this happened? Is this just another way of separating us from our government? Government=power to a few and people=bow to the power? The entrenched and trashy myth that the people answer to the government needs to be exposed and engrained in our brains for exactly what it is - trash and myth!

Maybe a officer in his Red Serge and high boots would turn you on better? They are not there to just to protect us. They are their to protect those assholes the arrested from some other asshole that wants to kill them.
Boy people are dumb here. Too much peace love and dope smoked here.

armyguy anf those like him are a large part of the galloping police state and he would just as easily turn his guns on cCanadian civilians as not judging by the trash he posts.

Me too Diogenes, figuratively of course. Although I confess, I do own a pair of sandals. My hope is that my sandals will help me run fast enough to escape the from the rapid fire of armyguy's dated stereotypes. :)
