An Online Community For Franco-Colombian: A Unique Opportunity Or An Utopia?

Posted on Friday, January 28 at 12:41 by gaulois
The Internet is becoming commonly used to regroup People in what matters to them. Many online communities have been created over the last couple of years and have become popular amongst different population groups. But amongst all the attempts made at ever creating one for Francophone Hors-Québec communities, none has ever been able to reach viability. Why? Isn't there community of interest here within Franco-Colombians? What would be its needs? What are the barriers to overcome? It it doable or is it an Utopia?

An extra-Quebec (sorry, don't know how to insert accented letters on my laptop, only on my desktop where I have a full number keypad) website might thrive as a gathering place for francophones. But I think the element missing is that Quebec has a culture that is distinctively Quebec's, and it is a great mistake to think that culture derives solely from the language. Quebec is comprised of many indigenous Canadians, many anglophones, and many imports from other nations ... language is only one part, and not necessarily as large a part as we all pretend, of what makes that group of people who and what they are.

The francophone communities of Saskatchewan and Manitoba are very different from those in Quebec ... because language is only a common bond, not the ONLY bond.

I noticed quite a small number of clicks on this story. It would be interesting to know if it was related to the subject matter or the language it was written in or both. Would more people have read it if I had provided an english version?
