Squat Or Die

Posted on Friday, October 27 at 08:42 by nancymarie
On a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon, the Anti-Poverty Committee kicked off its latest action campaign to provide housing for the homeless. The loosely-organized group took over an abandoned downtown building October 22, while a crowd of supporters rallied outside to demand the city make good on its promise to house the homeless. “Squat!” posters were plastered on poles and boarded-up windows. “Buy It or Guard It!” the posters read. Over a hundred people gathered and marched to the vacant North Star Hotel. From the top window of the four-story derelict brick building, two APC volunteers dramatically unrolled a 50-foot-long banner demanding “Homes Now!” The crowd cheered, roared, and clapped for five full minutes. Well, when are our politicians and especially the brainwashed public, finally come to grip with the reality that this is all the result of the teachings of "wealth creating neoclassical market capitalism", where human beings are just another "commodity" that ends up on the daily growing garbage dumps?

The main criminal is the system of deregulated money creation by private banks, who have flooded the Earth with worthless investment capital, resulting in grossly inflated overcapitalization, the servicing of which drains the economy dry and will ultimately destroy it.

This worthless, imaginary capital acts like a drug on humanity, giving people a false sense of euphoria, until the rude awakening, which has already happened to the homeless across North America and with the NAFTA, destroyed the Mexican middle class. Now coming here, and everywhere, with these criminal treaties, yet our politicians are begging for more and don't dare to question the terrible effects.

That those who are both poor and mentally ill are essentially abandoned on the streets is an atrocity committed by those in positions of power.

The policies of political parasites like premier Gordon Muir Campbell, and others of his slimy ilk, are directly resonsible for this.

Instead of funding going to help these unfortunates, it is being pumped into a so called Olympic Legacy, along with monies that should be going towards education, workplace safety enforecement, ecological management, and dozens of other far more worthy causes than a two ego-fest for some utterly useless bastard politicians.

And that isn't the end of it, as long as the wealthy are favoured simply because of the size of their wallets then there is no way that real justice and democracy will ever be the norm in British Columbia, instead of merely the exception as it is now.

The East Side, far from being the "problem", is a glaringly obvious symptom of a political system that has either gone insane, or sold whatever "soul" it had for some silver and a few baubles.

Show me a politician that supports the homeless and I will show you someone who is not getting elected.

Therefore, what you are saying is that private banks have not only been given the authority to create money, they have also been given the authority to create poverty. I am sure this scenario is not exclusive to just the North American continent.

It is ironic that the money which should be used to fund these social programs is being used instead for the Olympic Games, a sporting event that is supposed to bring the world together in good will and that most average Joes cannot afford to attend. It is also ironic that if a sufficient amount of money were going to these programs all along, additional funds would not be necessary to clean up the mess on the streets of Vancouver.

In essence, the poor and homeless are being sacrificed to give the world the false impression that poverty and homelessness are not alive, well and thriving in Canada. Unfortunately, those of us who live here, know that poverty is on the rise in alarming numbers.

And again, where is the media through all of this???...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Actualy they moniterd it pretty good this time. The whole event was scheduled and all morning Radio one was keeping the listener up to date. The city police was expected around 1pm but didn't actual show untill 130. CBC stayed on site, even so.

Mayor Sullivan was at first willing to talk and then backed away. I considered what the proposal was to be and understood why the mayor backed down. To buy these derelict buildings will be beyond most cities budget. They are privately owned and on prime real estate. One word from the city as to their interest in buying them, will triple the price demand. These buildings are at present unfit for habbitation. No insurance company would ever cover them in their present state. Many of these buildings will not pass any bylaw. Safety hazards with bad plumbing, water and electrical problems will raise the bill even higher. How many tax payers are willing to foot the bill?

The premier has just announced today that several more dollars and programs are coming to help municipalities cope with the mentally ill and adicted. Unfortunatly, Campbell might mean bigger bridges for the homeless to live under.

When I lived and worked in the area, St James & St Paul church's had built some nice buildings for that purpose. They are at Jackson/Gore on Dunlevy. Is anyone aware of these projects having been expanded?

There was a time when I didn't sleep in a bed and had no bath for 6 months, weighing 47 kg., always on the go, starving, half asleep. I was 17, it was war and I was in the army, but the experience will remain with me all my life, so I know what it feels like. Then came 5 out of 6 years living in barrack and camp hut conditions, out of rucksacks and suitcases, no furniture, no nothing.

These are some of the reasons, why I've spent a lifetime studying and writing about economics, history, politics and about the fraud that has been perpetrated by ruling classes since day one to steal their lives and properties.

The most remarkable fraud about money creation is that unlimited amounts can be created literally for criminal purposes to dispossess people and steal their survival infrastructures, then account it as "good economics", but none to help people to live decent, productive lives.

Yet, no politician, or Party dares to touch this incredible crime wave.
