Can Democracy Survive Bush's Embrace?

The Bush Administration wholeheartedly agrees, as evidenced by the orgy of redescription that now passes for American foreign policy. Faced with an Arab world enraged by its occupation of Iraq and its blind support for Israel, the US solution is not to change these brutal policies; it is, in the pseudo-academic language of corporate branding, to "change the story." http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0311-24.htm

How nice it would be if all the "non-actors", "critics", "armchair quarterbacks", and "experts" on what everyone else in the world SHOULD have done whatever it was/is that they have been/are doing differently would try their hand at making a difference in the world by taking ACTION as opposed to "critiquing" those who have/are. It seems that there are left or right, conservative or liberal minded people in most any country one could name in Europe/Central America/North America/etcetera. Most countries that have both groups actually do act upon their convictions rather than whine about what everyone else is doing, or accomplishing from the safety of the sidelines. Whining is what makes one irrelevant, inneffective, and insignificant. Having enough courage and conviction in your beliefs to risk your own finacial security, and/or your own personal safety to help others in the world who need you and do what you believe is right by (heaven forbid) DOING something is what separates the relevant from the irrelevant in the world. What differentiates between those who build, or make things better, and those who tear down, destroy, and doom to eternal stagnation and hopelessness. For some in the world there is real HOPE because there does exist nations who are willing to help and to take a chance and extend themselves...venture out of their comfort zones...lend a helping hand. Please my fellow Canadians...could we get out of our drug induced haze of self-righteous indignation over being ignored by the "actors" in the world and maybe aspire to something better for ourselves and the world in which we live? Do we ALWAYS have to define what/who we are in terms of the United States of America and what they do, and sunsequently how we FEEL about it? Just what does it mean to be "Canadian" anyway? I'm beginning to think that all it means is that to be Canadian, all one has to be is "anti-American". There is a WORLD out there...not just one country to the South of us...could we maybe PARTICIPATE in it's future? Think about it...I don't want us to become the Rodney Dangerfield of the world...I would like the name of our great country to remain Canada, not CanaDUH...please...help me out here fellow countrypersons...
