STICKS AND STONES
Wednesday January 26, 2005 at 9p.m. on CBC-TV

The United States is in the midst of a very un-civil war. It's a war of words that's pitting conservative against liberal, that's already divided the country into red and blue. The new gladiators are commentators like Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter and their forum is the television studios of networks like Fox. It's loud, it's raucous, but does it have anything to do with the truth?

While the CBC provides a comfortable anaesthetic for self-righteous Canadians who want to believe they are morally superior to everyone else in North America(excluding those irrelevant Mexicans), they only confirm their bigotry once again by seeing the issue backwards.

It's the leftist/liberal/Democrat press that is constantly attacking anything and anyone who is Conservative in the United States, they're the ones who keep throwing sticks and stones. They breathlessly report on any comment or policy of the Conservatives as though it were akin to the beginning of Armageddon - it's amusing to watch the old guard of the big US news networks implode actually, but pontification is just not a big seller these days.

pontificate
verb DISAPPROVING
to speak or write and give your opinion about something as if you knew everything about it and as if only your opinion was correct. Ah! the irony!
Perhaps we could watch the program first?

Libs/Democrats/Lefties. When did labels replace or silence debate? Was there some part of the program you found in error? It's ironic that the philisophical side who espouses the protection of democracy the loudest, works the hardest to stifle freedom of speech. If you can't debate an issue, you can always yell "shut up". Nice.

I have lost total respect for the fifth estate, They were making comments about how dishonest the American networks can be and then making a comment that there was no Canadians fighting in Vietnam, they have lost all credibility as far as I am concerned

    A Ha Ha Ha Ha,

I just saw Bill O'Reilly on the National so pissed that the Fifth Estate outed him as a Big Fat Liar. The documentary was very good actually. I did see it on Wednesday. I guess what Canadians that object to this kind of hate TV will have to do is just keep on the CRTC until they shut them down as they did the Quebec radio station people were objecting to.

I for one am going to email Fifth Estate with a High 5 and emailing O'Reilly with a suggestion for him to stay home.

Report where anon, the 'liberal press'? You state Canadians are bigots while in the same sentence you beride Mexicans as 'irrelevant'?

The hypocrisy of the right is no longer amusing.

Actually, the point of the discussion was "did Canada send troops to Vietnam". The factual answer is "no". Any Canadians that served in Vietnam either were drafted by the US, or enlisted at their point of entry in the US. Since no one has exact numbers, no one can say for sure how many served. The following URL is a good estimate of Canadians without US citizenship who served in Vietnam (about 1500):
lol. It's funny to see the hopeless arguments Corporate Right Wing Media shoots back with.

The funny thing is Fox News employs propaganda tactics that Joseph Goebells employed during the Nazi Regime.

It's funny when Conservatives use the Left Wing Media excuse. If Media was truly Left Wing they would be telling the truth on how the US Military industrial complex was responsible for 9/11.
It appears that "Liberal Media" is nothing more then a mouth piece for the same people that run Fox News.
