Treatments that use bacteriophages to attack harmful bacteria have been a part of folk medicine for hundreds of years in India and for decades in the former Soviet Union. The approved mix of six viruses is intended to be sprayed onto ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, including sliced ham and turkey, said John Vazzana, the president and chief executive of Intralytix, which developed the additive.

FDA allows viruses for meat and poultry
Associated Press
- WASHINGTON — A mixture of six bacteria-killing viruses can be safely sprayed on meat and poultry to combat common microbes that kill hundreds of people a year, federal health officials said Friday.
The mixture of special viruses, called bacteriophages, would target strains of Listeria monocytogenes, the Food and Drug Administration said in declaring it safe to use. The viruses are designed to be sprayed on ready-to-eat meat and poultry products just before they are packaged.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.
Sure, spraying the stuff may be safe to do, but notice that they don't say that eating it is.
"Consumers will not be aware"
Yeah, and that's because aware consumers will never buy the stuff.
No way around it, we're being poisoned by just about everything we eat, drink, breathe, so what's one more..

"No genetically engineered food on the market has been adequately tested for safety. In stead of careful testing, a procedure has been used that may let through harmful GE foods.

The only requirement for approval is that the GE food should be grossly similar to its natural counterpart. This is called the principle of "substantial equivalence". However, a GE food may not only be grossly similar, but almost completely identical with its natural counterpart and yet contain an unexpected and undiscovered very harmful substance. It is a scientifically well recognized fact that genetic engineering can cause the appearance of such unexpected substances.

This means that the present approval procedure, based on "substantial equivalence" is completely unreliable. It has no scientific basis. Therefore, foods approved in this way are not safe to eat. This includes all GE foods on the market in the world. - They have all been approved on the basis of "substantial equivalence" only...snip
The GE foods on the market all over the world have been approved on the basis of the principle of "substantial equivalence". We will show that this principle is unscientific, being based on incorrect assumptions about the effects of genetic engineering.

The assumption is that if it is established that the genetically engineered organism is similar to its natural counterpart, "substantially equivalent", then there is no reason to believe that it is hazardous.

To decide if a GE food is substantially equivalent, only a limited set of characteristics (selected by the manufacturer) needs to be compared according to this principle. If this superficial testing procedure reveals no significant difference between the GE food and its natural counterpart, then no further food safety testing is required.

So it is assumed that GE foods are safe if they are "substantially equivalent". However, this assumption is not valid. It would have been valid only if genetic engineering had been a safe technology that never could give rise to unexpected substances.

However the opposite is the case. Molecular biological theory as well as experimental findings indicate that unexpected substances may be created in GE foods. This includes carcinogenic (cancer-generating), mutagenic (mutation-generating), poisonous and allergenic substances,"
So what they are planning to do is wash the poop off of the product, soak it in a virus bath, package it and then sell this crap. Testing, who needs testing. Did we test genetically manipulated food? Did we test vaccinations? No, so why should we test meat soaked in virus soups, and if depleted uranium is declared safe by the United States then what could be wrong with irradiated foods.

And if you think they forgot about fruits and vegetables then read this
"DOW Chemical has been lobbying the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to allow it to spray a new fluoride-based pesticide (sulfuryl fluoride) on hundreds of foods prepared in the US. If DOW gets its way, sulfuryl fluoride will become a major new source of fluoride, making it even more difficult for consumers to avoid fluoride in their daily lives.

What's worse, the levels of fluoride allowed to be sprayed on food will be shockingly high: 70 ppm for processed foods, 130 ppm for wheat products, and 900 ppm for dried eggs!' "
http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2006/07/26/very_important_action_alert_say_no_to_fluoride_pesticides_on_food.htm

Sulfuryl fluoride, a fumigant applied to stored crops after harvest, leaves significant amounts of fluoride on treated foods. The motion argues in considerable detail that the EPA has failed in its statutory duty under the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) to ensure that total combined exposure to fluoride in food and tap water is safe for infants and children. In urging an immediate stay of all food tolerances the groups cite the March 2006 National Academy of Sciences report on fluoride safety which found that fluoride limits in tap water are not safe, particularly for children and people who drink large amounts of water, such as diabetics, and should be lowered.

"EPA's decision to allow huge increases in fluoride exposure via a wide range of food products flies in the face of the NAS conclusion that allowable fluoride exposures from water alone are not safe, particularly for children," said Michael Connett of FAN.

The motion also details procedural flaws including the fact that EPA did not release its human health risk assessment to the public until six months after it set the tolerances.
"...Artificial fluoridation of the water supplies is another pernicious process with equally alarming consequences for the drinker. There are two different forms of fluoride, one of which, calcium fluoride, is naturally occurring. Where present in the groundwater or wells it has been observed that the teeth of those who drink such water are much stronger and less prone to caries. The other, sodium fluoride is not found naturally and is a poisonous by-product of aluminium smelting and used in insecticides."
Canada could supply huge numbers of organically grown animals, as much of the country is only suitable for cattle, etc. but the powers would never permit it, as healthy foods cut into their profits and the GDP.
The high prices charged for organic meats are another racket, as, if anything, they should be cheaper than the adulterated meats from the feedlots, which are environmental disasters to begin with, but "good economics".

Every time I read of things like this happening I pray we'll either come to our senses, wake up and find is was all just a bad dream, or that we'll be put out of our misery by an asteroid strike.
