He said Alberta is prepared to face the consequences - including the forfeiture of federal health-care funding - in order to ensure the health system remains sustainable. "I think we're ready to assess the savings that might be achieved against the amount that will be lost."

The Alberta premier said the province may consider such changes as delisting medical procedures or charging a deductible on doctor visits to address spiralling health costs.

This is just more arrogance in government! Klein lost touch with the little people, many years ago, now it\'s all about his friends and what they want! This brings us back to 1930 before the Canada Health Act, this brings in to play two tier systems, one for the rich and one for the rest of us poor buggers who dare to get sick. Along with this he is recommending that ABC(Alberta Blue Cross) pay tax, it is a non-profit organization that offers insurance to many that wouldn\'t be able to get insurance, why? Because the insurance companies asked an MLA to look into the problem, her committee recommended not taxing them but the MLA went against the committee and now the Alberta gov is planning to implement these changes. Two questions, why is the MLA investigating ABC for private insurance companies, why isn\'t she investigating what\'s best for us, the people who pay her salary??? The insurance companies would consider this ABC a threat to them, which falls right in line with NAFTA, eroding our social systems, safety nets in order to increase their bottom line and the Klein gov is jumping in full throttle!!!

Oh ya, I am not impressed, not one bit!!!

<P> Can I ask a blunt question to any albertans here. How the heck did you people elect Klein? I mean that in a humor yet serious kind of way ;-) <P> I would like to also plug a book I recently bought. I haven't actually read the book yet, accept for reading the introduction. It seems like a good book so far on this subject of public and private health care systems. The book is called "Profit is not the cure" by Maude Barlow. <P> You can also watch some lectures done by her here: <A HREF="http://www.workingtv.com/profitisnotthecure.html">www.workingtv.com/profitisnotthecure</A> <P> Take Care, <P> Kevin Gagnon<BR> <A HREF="http://www.kevingagnon.ca">www.kevingagnon.ca</A>

How can Albertans allow Klein to do this ??

Did they give him a mandate to do this in his last election ? He has always leaned toward American style government, but he has to live within the limits of Canadian law.

Hold him accountable, and stop this crusade to Americanize Alberta.

    Please!!!

What I don\'t understand is why Klein has to \"sell\" this idea to Albertans. Who exists for whom? Does Klein do what the people want or vice-versa? Why is Klein doing a mere \'selling job\'? Why doesn\'t he give people the facts?

Klein is a threat to Canadian sovereignty. He\'s full of shit...I mean, of himself. He\'s one of my major reasons for not wanting provincial governments.

I agree, Klein has made it his policy to reward the rich and screw the poor! I think this is the part where \'nouveau riche\' gets its dirty name! He wasn\'t always high on the hog, he started out as a reporter, many of his original supporters came from his social outlets in Calgary, that\'s how he became Major and then on to provincial politics, he was environment minister and many clouds linger over those years. Now he considers himself, King Ralph, what\'s that say? This is just another gov that got itself into bed with the big boys and like it there, so piss on the rest of you who didn\'t make it! We need an auditor general to look into all government contracts, provincially and federally, these guys are taking us for a ride an it don\'t look pretty!

I heard a story on the news this morning, that there was an \'RBC report, stating that the Alberta gov, was like a 3rd world country, ...the least democratic gov around\" or words to that effect...don\'t anyone quote me, I am wondering if I got it right and if anyone else might have a link to the story in print...I have searched all news, and the RBC website, can\'t find a thing. So maybe I got it wrong, that\'s why I want to find the real deal, in print. Help?

I still can\'t find it in print, but it was repeated on CTV news twice today, but I had some info incorrect...it was the International World Bank Study, which said in part, that the Alberta gov, was more like a third world country than a mature democracy. So I would like to see this study, complete...if anyone has a link please let me know, thanks
