In the film, Jarecki says, “Frank Capra made a series of films during World War II called ‘Why We Fight' that explored America's reasons for entering the war. Today, with our troops engaged in Iraq and elsewhere for reasons far less clear, I think it's crucial to ask the questions: ‘Why are we doing what we are doing? What is it doing to others? And what is it doing to us?'”
The film offers rare insight on President Eisenhower from both his son, John S.D. Eisenhower, as well as from his granddaughter, Susan. It also features Senator John McCain, William Kristol, Richard Perle, Gore Vidal and Chalmers Johnson, among others. WHY WE FIGHT launches a compelling inquiry into the workings of the military industrial complex and the rise of the American Empire.
WHY WE FIGHT is directed by Eugene Jarecki, and produced by Jarecki and Susannah Shipman. It was produced in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, BBC and Arte. Producers for the CBC are Marie Natanson and Charlotte Odele.

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music." Friedrich Nietzsche
I have to say that Elizabeth May was present and she is no gutless wonder. She says it like it is and boy do I find that attractive. Coupled with the fact that she understands the urgency with which we need to do something. She honestly is the kind of leader every country on the planet needs and I think her timing is impeccable in terms of an ally in government.
One of the guest speakers said he felt sorry for the Conservative Bob Mills, MP for Red Deer and Conservative Environment Critic because he was defending the indefensible being Rona Anderson's comment about meeting Kyoto would mean taking all the cars, trains, planes etc. off the roads and out of the skies.
No one has allowed any national debate about the Alberta tar sands as though it is somehown taboo because of the wealth it brings into the country so Avi opened it up quite nicely. He is someone that also has no shame in asking the hard questions. Good show.

(did you mean Rona Ambrose?)
I'd just like to point out her FUD with that comment. Every 'total air pollution' by source study I've ever seen shows that transport is a small percentage of pollution, and industry is the majority source - but the fear mongering is always on 'the collapse of society' angle, not on reigning in industry.

"I think it's important to always carry enough technology to restart civilization, should it be necessary." Mark Tilden
Yes I did mean Rona Ambrose and I also meant that "Can we save Planet Earth" was the title of the documentary. I now realize I need to go to bed at that hour of the a. m. rather than try and make conversation. I obviously unlease tricksters that hang out in my brain like spam.
Did you get to see the doc and debate by the way?
