This reminds me of people who think, for example, that Bertrand Russell was a hypocrite because he was a wealthy earl & lived off an inheritance for a few years. The bottom line is that he used his privilege & connections (etc etc) to help other people who weren't so lucky, as the NDP did here. I don't see how where the NDP met has any relevance.

Most "pioneering" socialists/communists came from wealth.....

But I think an issue such as this wold catch criticism from both ends. Had they met in a "Motel 6", they would have been discredited as not being serious............

The NDP have been treading the carpets of swank hotels for decades -- so have their unions pals. That's how indoctrination works...you're a little nobody that can only afford to stay at the Motel 6 and then you go to 'convention' or a 'workshop' or an 'educational' and you get to go to fancy ass hotel and people call you 'Sir' and 'Madam' and then you start to think -- Hey! I do a lot for people in the community...I deserve this...and then you start working for the 'cause'.

The commies did that -- for some working class folks that was the ONLY time they ever even took a plane was to go and visit Albania or some Moscow International Womens' conference.

Why it happens to be topical now...who knows...and why single out 'Red' Tories?

The Blue ones do the same thing with little Mister Small Town Laundromat owner who gets to feel like a 'captain of industry' swanning about the Frontenac or any of the many staid commie-built CP hotels that tend to be in nice rural, smog-free quiet places that most people would love to stay at...but nonetheless pay for on a daily basis through their taxes, so that OTHER people can stay there.

So when will the NDP have their inevitable Leadership campaign...who's next...fool everybody with another token or try to pass off an insider as 'the working stiff's JFK'?

    Cultists...

Politicians in general LOVE to go on "fact-finding" trips to warm places in winter. Those who can't do that, go to Plan B - a little luxury to ward off the winter blahs.

What's the point of being a politician if you can't do a little dipping............?
