The high court has scheduled this Friday as judgment day in a constitutional challenge mounted by children's rights advocates who want the so-called spanking law struck down.

"We're looking forward to the decision," says lawyer Paul Schabas. "It's been a long battle."

Schabas and co-counsel Cheryl Milne represent the Canadian Foundation for Children, Youth and the Law, which began its campaign to outlaw spanking four years ago.

This is an issue that really irritates me, for two reasons, first we have seen what has happened to our society when parents are not responsible for raising their children, the \'70\'s were great for social workers telling kids what their rights were; only to have children at 16 yrs living in apartments paid by welfare, no discipline and no real support.(many other spin off problems from this) then all the social workers lost their jobs with the recession and the children were left fending for themselves without the skills they would have been taught at home.

2nd- our courts should be focussing on issues of real importance. Everyone knows their is a difference between spanking and child abuse, there are already laws on the books to fight this, if they were enforce!
