Over-Cutting And Waste In B.C.’S Interior

A Call to Rethink B.C.’s Pine Beetle Logging Strategy http://policyalternatives.ca/documents/BC_Office_Pubs/bc_2007/bc_overcutting_woodwaste.pdf I think the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives is being generous in ascribing the word "strategy" to any "plan" the BC government has seized upon. The operative words here should be "theft" or "looting" or "pillaging" for "strategy"; and "golden opportunity" for "plan". After all, this IS the Golden Decade for British Columbia.........

    RPW:

I read about the equivalent of 46,000 logging truckloads of healthy
spruce and fir which get bulldozed into piles and burned as waste in this
cleverly planned orgy of clearcut harvest of standing dead pine ...

If the B.C. ministry of forests actually has a longterm plan, it's fair to ask
if it includes any jobs for working people ... or will it be condos and golf
    courses to the farthest horizon?

Please contribute more on this topic. It doesn't seem to be widely
understood for the serious issue it really is.

    One word: monoculture.

That's what the mixed forests will no doubt end up being.

    It's more "cost effective".

Ether that or they're conducting some gigantic "heat the ground" weather experiment.
