Invite Hugo Chavez To Ottawa Already!

Posted on Monday, March 21 at 10:00 by 4Canada
Now is the time for Canada to invite Chavez because the U.S. administration is working hard to isolate Venezuela and may be trying to assassinate its president. Last week State Department sub-secretary Robert Zoellick reiterated Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's comment calling Chavez a "negative force" in Latin America. Porter Goss, the new Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, said that Chavez "is consolidating his power by using technically legal tactics to target his opponents and meddling in the region." Goss also said the CIA considers Venezuela the leading cause of concern in Latin America. (As usual the corporate media barks when ordered, with Fox News running a three-part series titled "The Iron Fist of Hugo Chávez"; and on February 12th the Miami Herald ran a front-page story declaring, "Chavez arms for war with the U.S.") The recent spat between Columbia and Venezuela over the blatantly illegal kidnapping of FARC associate Rodrigo Granda had Made In the USA written all over it. (Contrary to stories about Venezuela's harboring wanted "terrorists," Interpol did not submit a request for Granda until January 9, 2005, nearly one month after he was kidnapped on Venezuelan soil.) While thus far there is no evidence of direct US involvement in this undermining of Venezuelan sovereignty, the Bush ambassador to Columbia stoked the fires saying his country supports Columbia "100 per cent" in the dispute. Also, it is unlikely that Columbia, which receives nearly $1 billion annually from the USA, would bribe Venezuelan officials without Bush administration support. The "Granda affair" follows on the heels of the well-coordinated assassination of Venezuelan prosecutor Daniel Anderson and the capture of 90 Columbian paramilitaries involved in a possible assassination attempt against Chavez. The US plan seems to be attacking Venezuela through Columbia. full article: http://www.zmag.org/sustainers/content/2005-03/18engler.cfm [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on March 21, 2005]

Let's greet him with a 1,000,000+ enthusiatic Canadian supporters to emphasize how much more welcome he is than the leader of that banana republic immediately south of us. And let's send him home with a couple of billion dollars in aid.

You guys don't have a clue about Granda. To defend this guy is despicable. Here's a FARC director being harbored in Venezuela and conducting kidnapping activities in Paraguay. Furthermore, Granda violated the unwritten rule of going after one's family
(Cecilia Cubas). The guy is human scum and you guys defend him? To criticize Colombia's actions just makes you guys seem really stupid. Granda was captured by Venezuelan National Guard...the guys that captured him where in their twenties and they were doing their jobs. Regarding Mr. Anderson, there are two hypothesis prevailing at the moment: he either blew himself up from a self-installed explosive device designed to incinerate the interior contents of his vehicle (because he was leading an extortion ring and kept all the compromising docs in his car) OR the order to blow him up was given by regime officials. The first theory is the prevailing one. Regarding the "paramilitaries" they turned out to be poor colombian kids tricked into jobs in Venezuela by Venezuelan government officials with the intent of setting them up in a mock assasination attempt. These kids were going to be massacred by the regime until the operation was blown wide open by the bus drivers wife and local cops who were not in on it. Of course you guys don't want to hear nothing of it because it's the truth. There are already witnesses who have come forward to dispel this whole "paramilitary" story but in Venezuela today, Chavez controls everything. The first victim of war is TRUTH.

Chavez should come to Ottawa to teach little Paul a thing or two about protecting our nation and culture. Chavez can also remind Paul that Canada's oil is for Canadians not Americans. If Canada had a leader that was half as brave as Chavez our great country would be even greater.

Senor Chavez can always stay at my place if he wants to. I've got a spare bed and the couch is not too bad either.
---
« Il y a une belle, une terrible rationalité dans la décision d'être libre. » - Gérard Bergeron
By all means bring Hugo Chavez to Montreal. If nothing more than to bug the neoconazis in DC, but it ought to be the beginnings of a strategy to unite with the populist states of Latin America against Yanqui imperialism.
