My Candidacy

This means I'm going to definitely need some more volunteer help around the site. I'll post info on the type of positions that are open ASAP.

Vive le Canada.ca will remain non-partisan, although being a progressive site I think we naturally have quite a few NDP supporters around ;)

Anyway, you can keep track of my foray into party politics at my campaign website, www.electsusanthompson.ca. The site's still missing a few features, soon to be added, but I've got some info up there and a blog so you can follow me along the campaign trail.

I hope at least a few of you will consider donating once I've got the information posted, which will be ASAP since we do have an official agent. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could get a federal NDP MP--from Alberta???!!! A few extra donations could help make that happen.

Anyway, I'll keep you all posted on developments and meanwhile, keep your eye peeled for those volunteer positions.

- Susan

Very cool. What Liberals, Conservatives, etc are you running against? Is it a card-carrying Conservative riding?

Good luck Susan, maybe one day in the future Canadians will be voting for Susan Thompson as their choice for "Greatest Canadian".

Here Here! That is fantastic news, Susan it would be very nice to have an NDP member of parliament from Alberta...it would also be nice if the NDP could form the government, which I being very optimistic think is a possibility...not just because they do have some great ideas, mostly getting rid of NAFTA, against missile defence and for healthcare...but also because the liberals and conservatives are eating away at each other and they don't have the respect of the majority of Canadians because of their past actions!

So good luck and we'll be watching and hoping!

Thanks everyone! I'll give 'er and hit it as hard as I can.
Lina, I really appreciate your comments since in my riding (Peace River) we have a number of reserves and the issues that affect First Nations are a priority for me. I marched in the Sisters in Spirit protest a few weeks ago for all of the aboriginal women who have disappeared. We had an excellent turnout. Unfortunately though there's a LOT of racism left in this riding and it's an uphill battle to improve anything.
As for what the riding's like politically, it's definitely a Conservative riding. The incumbent's Charlie Penson (Reform/Alliance/Conservative) and I'm also running against Lyle Carlstrom, a Liberal lawyer.
And PS, any campaign ideas and suggestions on how to approach the issues are welcome! Just email me.
---
Now call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard, and we hit it fast, with a major, and I mean major, leaflet campaign.--Rimmer, Red Dwarf
Congratulations Susan!

It's funny, but when I read your post I thought to myself "Maybe she'll be a political Maud Barlow".;) I wish you lots of success in the upcoming election.
