U.S.-LATIN AMERICA

Posted on Saturday, March 25 at 13:55 by jensonj
Latin America remains an area of low priority for a United States primarily preoccupied with Iraq, Iran, North Korea and China. Yet Latin America is critically important for the United States because of the significant economic stakes. This includes not only large loans (both public and private) and investments in the region, but also two-way trade of major proportions. Latin America is a source of significant raw materials. Depending on global developments and changes in U.S. access to petroleum and other important resources abroad, especially in the Middle East, Latin America may become even more essential to the United States in the future. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/opinion/14173469.htm

When Evo Morales won her victory in Bolivia, she was praised by the Americans and then promptly had her visa to their country canceled. The Americans claim it was just routine. Hopefully she will show them a few routines of her own.

I don't believe the Americans have anything to worry about with thier extensive loans to south american countries as Chavez is buying much of the debt to throw off the yoke of the world bank. To me he seems a breath of fresh air in world politics. It would be nice to see all the nations of south america stand together and be a beacon of democracy the rest of the world can applaud. They've had so much hardship and maybe the oil money can buy them some peace.
