Joe Clark knew what he was doing when he agreed to appear on Question Period on Sunday. He knew Brian Mulroney and Stephen Harper would both be attending a fundraiser in Fredericton the day before in a gesture of reconciliation between the old and new Conservative parties. And he was ready to respond.
Mr. Clark made a calculated decision to undermine the Mulroney-Harper entente by appealing to members of the former Progressive Conservative Party, a party he led for more than decade, to vote for Paul Martin in the next election.
