Posted on Friday, May 20 at 10:19 by LMW
The case of Sgt Benderman and those of others like him has focused attention on the thousands of US troops who have gone Awol (Absent Without Leave) since the start of President George Bush's so-called war on terror. The most recent Pentagon figures suggest there are 5,133 troops missing from duty. Of these 2,376 are sought by the Army, 1,410 by the Navy, 1,297 by the Marines and 50 by the Air Force. http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/051905_world_stories.shtml

We ought to listen to those who have walked in those shoes, we always hear the 'lest we forget' and 'never again' advertisements, but does anyone listen! This is recent experience, and should carry a great deal of weight. They have served, they have seen and now before we continue the blood shed, we should listen and change the course! I realize that the we, as in Canada is not participating, officially, in this brutallity, but these people need moral support from the world, to combat the battle for truth. Although we aren't in Iraq, we are increasing our participation in the war on terror, even though the terror and fear creators are mainly media and gov propaganda! That is the real terror. IMO

What a switch for Canada from a government that accepted 50,000 American conscientious objectors during the Vietnam war to a spineless government (liberal or conservative) that threatens to turn one back during the Iraq occupation. The Americans may have hated Trudeau but I'll bit they also had respect for him for not caving into their political pressure like a frightened little child, which is the present attitude of our government and a good many Canadians I might add.

April 29, 2005—Wednesday at Ft. Stewart Georgia, U.S. Army Sergeant Kevin Benderman was dealt a setback in his battle with the U.S. Army when his application for Conscientious Objector (CO) status was denied by his command.

Benderman applied for CO status after having already served one combat tour in Iraq during which his captain ordered personnel in the unit to fire on Iraqi children throwing rocks. This was one of many incidents during his deployment that Benderman said convinced him that war is immoral and it is his duty to refuse to kill.

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan has pronounced the war in Iraq illegal and recent polls show a significant decline in American and British public support for continuing what majorities in both countries now believe is a lost cause. Both administrations have been battered recently over revelations regarding non-existent weapons of mass destruction (WMD), Iraqi civilian casualties, torture allegations, missing funds, American casualty counts and aggressive recruiting practices targeting disadvantaged youths
Already been done. Looking for a repeat because it failed to capture anyone's attention the first time around? Sorry LMW. We'd like to help you out. Honestly. Have a Molson Canadian on the house.

Why don't you ask the site monitors.
