A number of irresponsible statements have been heard today in the media. CSIS spokesman Luc Portelance: "They had the intent to use (the ammonium nitrate) for bomb-making." An intention is not a verifiable fact. A jury will have to make the best determination it can of the accused's intentions. CBC reporter Piya Chattopadhyay: "These arrests prove that Canada is not immune to terrorist threats." Nothing has been proved. David Miller, mayor of Toronto: "We have to figure out why these young people turned to these ideas." We don't know yet what beliefs the accused persons held; they haven't had the chance to speak for themselves. RCMP Commissioner MacDonnell: "They were involved in an ideology inspired by al-Qaeda, though no evidence of a link to al-Qaeda was found." If no evidence of a link is there, why mention al-Qaeda? It only plants an inflammatory and fearful idea in the public's mind. All of these statements report the prosecution's case as if it were fact. We simply don't know the facts yet, but the men have already been declared guilty by the media. What are their chances now of getting a fair trial?
It must be emphasized as well that this case is a completely separate matter from that of the Secret Trial Five. The Five are men who have been detained for years and years on secret evidence that neither they nor their lawyers are allowed to see. (Yes, this is happening in Canada.) They have never been charged with any crime whatsoever.
The question of the security certificates under which the Five are being detained, is to go before the Supreme Court on June 13. Supporters of their right to fair treatment are beginning two weeks of demonstrations today - June 3 - to draw attention to their plight. A "Freedom Caravan" is starting in Toronto today and travelling to Ottawa over the next week, following which there will be demonstrations in front of the Supreme Court beginning on June 11.
The thought must cross our minds, that the timing of today's arrests MAY have had something to do with these planned demonstrations, to discredit them and to prejudice the case of the Five. We must be very aware of this possible outcome, even if it was not intentionally planned.
Under these circumstances, we should step up our call for the Five to be released - or else properly charged, with proper disclosure of evidence, so that there can be a fair trial for them. We must do all we can to cool down any mass hysteria resulting from the new arrests, which could sweep up others in its net of suspicion and prejudice.
We must remember what country we are defending, and who we are.
In the longer term, we will need to look more closely at Canada's foreign policy and consider whether our present course may in fact be generating more terrorism in the world rather than reducing it. May today's events serve as a wake-up call to us to start having that conversation, before Canada proceeds any further down a disastrous road.

There will always be small pockets of people who are mad about things like a lot of us, but who cross the line, organize, and choose a target.
The point is to avoid living in fear. The media wants us to live in fear. The government wants us to live in fear.
Do Not live in fear, people. It's just not worth it.
In the past I have said arrest the suspected terrorists and give the people arrested a fair and unbiased trial.
They have done the first, it remains to be seen if they will do the second.
Any secrecy at all, for any reason, casts the shadow of doubt over everything.
Then again, as has been stated, maybe this whole affair was orchestrated to draw attention away from an even weightier human rights matter concerning security certificates.
If that is indeed the case, one can only wonder how far away from a fascist state we truly are, or more correctly, how close to becoming.

It's just a group of a hundred or so of the world's most powerful corporate CEOs, bankers and heads of state who like to get together once a year to shoot some pool, have a few beers and talk about making global domination even more profitable.
Every couple years, there is an "Oil Mans" convention in ethier Jasper or Banff. They basically take over the town for a week or so. It's about the beer and the golf. Not about world domination of the oil industry.
Except to the tinfoil hat crowd. But then again, by dismissing the tinfoil hat crowd's assertion that Bilderberg is about world domination, I am therefore one of the dominators.

Yes, there are a lot of loons out there with websites claiming pretty much everything from golf to lizardmen concerning these elites and their meetings.
But Old Poop is essentially correct concerning it's membership and purpose.
They meet together every year and go over "unofficial" business that for some strange reason they can't do openly in public.
Gee I wonder why.
Maybe it's because the theories concerning their plans for global governance etc are...true?
I really seriously, why on earth would these people want to have an annual general meeting and go over their plans for Earth Inc. in 2006-2007?
These elites measure the value of their time in the thousands of dollars per hour, if not the second.
Only a truly closed mind would refuse to even consider the notion that they are incapable of forming a global cartel.

In Canada, Pierre Trudeau, Robert Bourassa, Stephan Dion, Bernard Lord, Stephen Harper, Jean Chretien and Paul Martin have all (among others) attended Bilderberg meetings but never really made it public and only grudgingly acknowledged it in the case of Bernard Lord.
Bilberg HAS admitted their influence on the world. The meetings were organized by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands in 1954 but are under the auspices of the Rockeller and Rothchild banking families who likely steer the direction of the meetings by influencing the steering group.
Bilderberg is not a conspiracy to some once they know about it but it is covert (check) and they have accomplished things like the Treaty of Rome (the E.U.) and bringing in the EURO.
Bilderberg is more likely organized by those who already run the world than conspiracy to take over the world. They are all internationalists who think ANY nationalism is evil--which makes them an enemy of ViveleCanada as they tried to partition Canada in 1996 via separatism.

CONFESSIONS OF A GLOBALIST
BILDERBERGER ADMITS INFLUENCE ON WORLD DECISIONS

By James P. Tucker Jr.

More and more European news outlets are bucking the ban on exposing the shadowy globalist group known as Bilderberg and reporting in depth on this secret gathering of kingmakers and power elites.

While Bilderberg’s top man insists that it is just a good old boys club, another Bilderberg participant readily admits it holds influence in global decisionmaking, BBC News reports from London.

“Will Hutton, an economic analyst and former newspaper editor who attended a Bilderberg meeting in 1997, says people take part in these networks in order to influence the way the world works, to create what he calls ‘the international common sense’ about policy,” BBC said.

“On every issue that might influence your business you will hear first hand the people who are actually making those decisions and you will play a part in helping them make those decisions and formulating the common sense,” BBC quotes Hutton.

“And that ‘common sense’ is one which supports the interests of Bilderberg’s main participants—in particular free trade,” BBC told listeners, who number in the millions.

“Viscount Davignon says that at the annual meetings, ‘automatically around the table you have internationalists’—people who support the work of the World Trade Organization, transatlantic cooperation and European integration.”

Viscount Etienne Davignon, 73, is chairman of Bilderberg and a former European commissioner. Today, Davignon is a wealthy banker and is known as the public face behind the unification of Europe under one currency, the euro.

BBC’s Bill Hayton interviewed him at his office in Brussels. Hayton correctly called it an “extremely rare interview.”

“I don’t think [we are] a global ruling class because I don’t think a global ruling class exists,” Davignon told BBC listeners. “I simply think it’s people who have influence interested to speak to other people who have influence.”

Davignon said “business influences society and politics influences society—that’s purely common sense. It’s not that business contests the right of democratically elected leaders to lead.”

“For Bilderberg critics the fact that there is almost no publicity about the annual meetings is proof they are up to no good,” BBC’s Hayton said on air. “Jim Tucker, editor of . . . American Free Press, for example, alleges they organize wars and elect and depose political leaders. He describes the group as simply ‘evil.’ So where does the truth lie?”

Bilderberg meetings “often feature future political leaders shortly before they become household names,” Hayton said. “Bill Clinton went in 1991, while still governor of Arkansas. Tony Blair was there two years later while still an
opposition member of Parliament. All the recent presidents of the European Commission attended Bilderberg meetings before they were appointed.”

BBC did not mention that Blair also attended in 1998 as prime minister.

NO ACCIDENT

Davignon explained that Bilderberg’s steering committee “does its best assessment of who are the bright new boys or girls in the beginning phase of their career who would like to get known. . . . It’s not a total accident.”

“Professor Kees van der Piji of Sussex University in Britain says such private networks of corporate and political leaders play an informal but crucial role in the modern world,” Hayton said. He quotes the professor:

“ ‘There need to be places where these people can think about the main challenges ahead, coordinate where policies should be going, and find out where there could be a consensus.’ ”

This benign image of Bilderberg, however, denies reality. A simple glance at the secret roster of attendees shows it is composed of the wealthy elites, who are all seeking similar goals—increasing their power and profits, while turning the rest of us into serfs on the global plantation.
