Canadian Students Protest Cost Of Education

The largest marches were in British Columbia, where fees have skyrocketed since the provincial Liberals lifted a six-year freeze imposed by the former NDP government. About 2,500 demonstrators gathered in downtown Vancouver and another 1,500 outside the B.C. legislature in Victoria.

In Halifax, about 200 placard-waving students also protested outside the legislature chanting "Education is a right, we will not give up the fight."

Rallies were also held in St. John's, Charlottetown, Edmonton and Winnipeg, where 500 turned out.

One of the protesters said it best, we are the future voters and we will remember! But will she? Seems like Canadian voters are the most absent minded or forgiving voters in the world, hope she proves me wrong!

Forgiving? No, we just have few alternatives in this corrupt electoral system......I\'ve always found the electorate very unforgiving, when it comes to provincial or the federal NDP partie(s).

Well, at least they`re out there showing how they feel. They could choose to stay inside and play Nintendo or something in the heart of winter. Freedom does not exist if education is financially put out of reach for most!

I agree Dave, and once they begin to see what gov is doing to education, they will probably pay attention to other issues. Once you start to see how this system works you are likely to stay informed. In the end they are getting an education, thanks to the politicians,(now that is irony)!

being a young Canadian is only an advantage if you are Native, or a multi-cult. The system is skewed against you otherwise. Better to leave for greener pastures. If I was young and didn\'t have a family, that\'s what I would do. As far as post secondary education, my sympathies are with the Born-in-Canada dupes who consume push media, for they are trying to live the debt-consumer life, plus live the euphoric freedom of college life, the two are incompatible.

Don\'t let age hold you back, move on if you think it\'s better elsewhere...the negative will always hold people back, no matter what age, colour, culture etc!
