More Organized Debate And Discussion

Posted on Monday, March 01 at 20:40 by Poz
Through my journeys on the internet I have come to discover phpBB community boards ( http://www.phpbb.com/ ). This open source program is free and would be an amazing addition to the Vive le Canada community. I know I am asking someone else to do more work (I am absolutely useless when it comes to the technical operation of programs :) but it might be something worth looking in to. Any thoughts? -Ryan

    Ryan,

I agree, I\'ve thought of that before but never mentioned it. Even if it is more work, there is many here who would be willing to volunteer time to moderate the forum.

Can anyone explain how a discussion board would be better than the comments on individual articles? It\'s possible for us to implement it, but I would like some more opinions/reasons first.

Only the organization of it. It's kind of tough to make contiunous comments on a subject that's disappeard three pages back from the main page of a section.<p> I think if topics 'resurfaced' when new comments were added in the section pages, maintianing a conversation would be easier.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />"The greatest price of not participating in politics is being governed by your inferiors." In reply to JvH\'s comments. I beleive that the comments at the ends of articles are great and should continue to be used. Yet, I feel that an organized forum would be invaluable for people to debate and discuss things that are not related to articles. I look at many of the posts after an article and many of them have lost the focus of the article.

We could have different headings for several topics such as the titles of the various sections of Vive le Canada. This would organize and bring a flow to discussion which could ultimately lead to the formation of more coherent conclusions.

I find the board very confusing.
I posted for over a year on another chat board and I didn\'t have a problem. But here I posted in only three subject areas -not counting this here- and I have a hard time finding the threads, at times.
    Frustrating.
I also find it more of a \'blog\' than a discussion board because there\'s not much real discussion going on, as far as I can tell.
Not trying to put you down. I think it\'s wonderful that you are making this resource available. Just trying to help you to improve.
