On the contrary, said Clark, the new party is dominated by former Canadian Alliance hard-liners, while most Red Tories from the former Progressive Conservatives have been relegated to the sidelines.

Clark said he doesn't like Prime Minister Martin either, or the scandals that have plagued the Liberal government. But if forced to choose, he suggested Martin would be the lesser evil.

"I think the question is a very tough one," said Clark. "I think that there is a good question which one is more dangerous for the country. ...

I sort of already thought this. It's not that 'Martin is the devil we know', but that the new American Party is so extreme with everything, including free-trade. I think it's in their party constitution or something, a committment to free & open trade. No party has ever taken such an extreme position on something like that. I bet they'd try to create laws that would prohibit governments from running a deficit also, which would be suicide.

I am happy that such a great Canadian statesman can speak out against what he sees wrong with the new Conservative Party. I wish though that he can see that there is more to Canadian politics than the Conservative-Liberal group. He would do a lot to shake up Canadian politics by throwing his support to the NDP or, even better, to one of the small grassroots Canadian parties that are emerging. I suggest that we start sending him emails begging him to do just that. Simple messages saying that it would be worth his time to check out the messages/websites of the new parties.

The globe and mail poll shows that 64% agree with Clark's view. While 36% disagree. That's out of 23971 votes.

One thing is for sure, Joe Clark will answer your emails, sometimes it takes awhile but he does, every time...guess he knows who he works for, it is too bad there aren't more like him, it's just that he couldn't play 'shark' so he was eaten alive!

I just fired off an email to Joe on behalf of the CDM. He was courageous to say what he did. I have always personally liked Joe Clark, and have told him so in the past. Sure Joe has screwed up, but who doesnt at some time?

At least with Mr. Clark you know where he stands - behind Canada and Canadians. For that he has our vote of confidence on this matter.

On a side note - take a stroll by freedominion and see how fast the right turns on their own. They truly are a party of angry people.

Joe Clark is a fool. He lost his gov't because he can't even count! The Progressive Conservative Party was just a flag of convenience for him, he has no consistent ideals. All he ever did was say nice and soothing things that are easy on delicate liberal-Canadian ears and all of a sudden people refer to him as a Statesman? gimme a break. The world is full of tough choices for any gov't, he wasn't up to it when he had the power and he's still blowing sunshine.

He is right about Harper he is misleading us though by saying we have to chose between the 'devil we know' and the 'devil with a hidden agenda' when in fact we have a perfectly good choice with no devil on the horizon, (far as I have seen) and that is Jack Layton. Guess he is like the media on this; ignoring the obvious! I like Joe and he has always responded to my questions, so I wrote and told him to take a look at Jack Layton, we'll see what he says.

The NDP is irrelevent, just as much as Joe Clark has been irrelevant for years. They still haven't figured out that international socialism is dead.

The same goes with the Conservatives. With the so-called right united, the Conservatives have essentially set their course directly into oblivion.

The Liberals over the last decade or so, since the accession of Jean Crétien to the Prime Ministerial post, have successfully manouvered themselves to neatly encompass almost the entire political spectrum in Canada squeezing both the NDP and the PC/Alliance conglomerate at the extremes merely to appear to be different.

The only solution is to create a party that doesn't identify with any of the right-left garbage and stands for peace, order and good government in the interests of the citizens of Canada.

A new Nationalist Party must identify itself with the nation and its people showing clearly how the Liberals, Conservatives and NDP leaders and parties are traitors.
