If this is what people in the Land O' the North call funny, some way has to be found to bring back all the expat Canadian comedians. The humor (or humour) deficit must be filled as fast as possible or the laughter will die.

Perhaps the winner should have been "Oh good, you're here to invade my country. I thought for a second you were going to give me a Mel Hurtig book. Whew."

  3. Sun Jan 16, 2005 5:51 pm
Perhaps it should have read," Don`t worry, son. Team America to the rescue!" But congrats to the winner.

You're right, it's not humorous. It's all too real to be humorous.

Wow, you should have entered the contest! With such witty remarks comparing canada to Al Qaeda, you should be a comedian! No, I mean it! But you should somehow work in references to "So Dumb Insane", or "Can't-nadians". I never get tired of either of those!

Canadians are asking, why do americans hate us? They hate our freedoms: our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech, our freedom to disagree with each other.

Canada can, but not very well.

Canadians don't care so long as they're killing other people and the cable TV doesn't go out. If we cater to terrorists instead of getting rid of them, maybe they'll blow us up last.

I don't think anyone suggested this contest was exclusive to humour, there was nothing funny about the photo, which is probably why the caption that won wasn't funny! Canadians don't like unnecessary war, we care about humanity not only next door but all over the world, that is the main difference I see between the populous of Canada and many of the American postes on vive. People are people, no matter where they were born, there are only two kinds, male and female, not Terrorists and the rest of us. If you listen to the media, including many of the U.S. politicians they don't talk about, stopping the chaos, fixing the injustices of the world, stopping the gun trades, drug trades or oppression; the language is simple, seek out and kill the 'terrorists'! It is as if they have forgotten that these so called, 'terrorists' are people, human beings, that started out as infants, but something caused them to feel so desperate that they were willing to die for their cause, the question is what is the root of the cause?

That root of hatred must be found, and a solution must be found, before we can find peace. Dehumanizing the enemy may help console the hearts of those forced to kill in the name of good, but reality is quite different, killing for oil, for oppression, for control of another's country, for greed and power will never give comfort to anyone!

Canadians don't want bloodshed in our country, but we don't export it in order to accomplish our mission, either. We just don't enjoy the thrill of conquest, like some people seem to; we care more about the quality of life for everyone. Feeding the hungry, curing the sick, providing homes to the homeless, educating our children and caring for our elderly are our top priorities.

Blurring the line between good and evil, can be distorted for a time, but only a short time, eventually humanity sees the motive behind the senseless killing and won't stomach the insanity! Hopefully that time is nearly over. ( Oh, I know some of the previous posts are just trolling, but eventually maybe some of the message will sink in, here's hoping)

Above is is a good example of the wooly-headed sappiness that comes from pacifism. Nobody wants unnecessary war. Wars are expensive; who would anyone bother if they weren't necessary? The comfortable view from the sidelines where nothing is at stake is not the same as on the field of play, by the way. "People are people, no matter where they were born, there are only two kinds, male and female, not Terrorists and the rest of us." This is so fatuous one hesitates to comment. Somebody is setting off car bombs, strapping on suicide belts and sawing off the heads of infidels. I think they are called "terrorists." Yes, they began as infants. Your point? The root of hatred is human nature. People love, hate and feel all the emotions in between. Again, your point? Canadians don't enjoy the thrill of conquest? Ask your veterans of WWII. They are very pleased to have helped destroyed the murderous Hitler regime, the embodiment of evil in its time as Saddam's was on a lesser scale in his. The line between good and evil may be blurred among the socialists and pacifists who are prepared to put up with anyone's suffering so long as it isn't theirs, but with those who care about exporting democratic virtues it is very clear. By "trolling," do you mean disagreement?

  13. Tue Jan 18, 2005 5:08 pm
'Trolling' Jerry Jay, is where you try to ellicit an emotional response for the sake of doing so. You try to bait people into anger or passion flared diatribes. As you can see with Whelan, she isn't biting.

You say "The comfortable view from the sidelines where nothing is at stake is not the same as on the field of play" like you are actually doing something yourself about your concrete view that Iraq is justified; yet all the facts say otherwise. Are you putting yourself in harms way to defend your country? Or do you just whine about it on the internet from your parents basement?

Whereas, Whalen has two sons who are serving and herself has run for public office to have a hand in trying to make our country better.

She has not given any answers to my points, if that's what you mean by "not biting." Iraq was justified on a number of different levels. I don't know what you mean by "all the facts" say the contrary. That is not my understanding of them. I expressed my concrete view, as you put it, by voting for George Bush. That's what you do in a democratic republic. You select the candidate whose views most closely adhere to your own. I guess in Canada you vote for the man you would most like to see become rich in office. Different strokes, I guess. As for putting myself in harm's way, do you really consider that a requirement for expressing an opinion on the merits of war or peace? If that were the case, only retired or serving military would be entitled to one. But maybe you were only being emotional.
