This is the way I hope Canada will continue to behave, as a considerate nation. It warms my heart to know that we are still remembered because of the kindness we displayed over 50 years ago.
Both Jesse and I are half Dutch (hence the van Herk surname) and know all about this, although I wish more Canadians did. Holland is also grateful to Canada for coming in and helping liberate the country.

It is a testament to Canada that the Netherlands still remembers what Canadians did for them so long ago. But do most people in Ottawa know why they send tulips every year?

Do Canadians remeber what Canadians did for them in that war? Don't even get me started on the Juno Beach memorial

If it wasn`t for the Netherlands showing appreciation, you would never know that canada even went to fight in WW2, thanks to our neutered American lackey government! Our Canadian troops were equally impressive in Italy and France, and Canada`s contribution to the war effort, out of all the allies, was per capita, the largest!!!
Agreed, and another Canadian story, 'The Great Escape" was featured on history chanel last night, excellent documentary about the 9 prominent Canadians that were behind the story. The American involvement was actually minimal as they were generally kept in a different compound, the only Americans that would have been there, were the ones that signed on to the RCAF. Poland is holding a 60th memorial this month, to celebrate their efforts.
The movie, featured mostly Americans as the heroes, ie Steve McQueen etc., and the Brits. But I guess Canadians don't make great hollywood material, just the things that they do, which are heroic and over the top!
I've said it before and I'll say it before... Canada has a long-standing history of succeeding where all others have failed. I'd give you evidence to back this up, but it seems like you all know Canadian history better than I do. Vimy Ridge jumps to mind though.

Beaumont Hamel; The Battle of the Somme. Dunkirk. These are two of our worst defeats, and two of our proudest moments.

Neuve Chapelle, Ypres(1st, 2nd and 3rd), Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, Juno Beach, and recently the Medak Pocket - but that didn't make the news. These are also some hard fought and won battles. Google Vive, as I've described some of these battles here before.
