DND Gets Private Healthcare

"They're the guardian of public health care in Canada, and yet when it comes to delivering service in their own jurisdiction they're privatizing," he told CTV's David Akin. The RCMP is spending $250 million on health-care, with some of that money going to private clinics. Corrections Canada also spends some of its budget on private health care. This makes the government the largest purchaser of private health care services in the country. http://sympaticomsn.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1119486999024_55?hub=topstories

Med-Emerg International - Government tribunal issues ruling into contract award

TORONTO, June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Med-Emerg International Inc. (OTC BB: MDER- MDERW) announced today that the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has determined that the its complaint against Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) regarding its procurement for the provision and management of a workforce of qualified health service providers, is valid in part.

In December 2004, Med-Emerg was advised that PWGSC had awarded a contract to Calian Technologies Ltd. (Calian) for medical staffing services to the Canadian Forces, Department of National Defence. This contract replaced a contract then held by Med-Emerg, which expired March 31, 2005.

The CITT upheld three of the six grounds of complaint and determined that PWGSC introduced unpublished and ambiguous evaluation criteria to the evaluation process. As a remedy the Tribunal has awarded Med-Emerg its reasonable costs. The findings of the CITT are subject to appeal by any party to the Inquiry, for up to 30 days. At this time Med-Emerg is evaluating its options.
At least it's a small acknowledgement by our Liberal Party masters that the public health care system sucks. They're probably only doing this because as an employer, the gov't could get sued by these people for failing to provide care - something of that nature, it's surely not because the Liberals give a crap about police or military personnel. The public at large doesn't matter, they'll be told that everything will be fine if they vote Liberal - and they'll believe it!

Personally, I think that's backwards. It's not an endorsement of the Private care system or judgement of the public system, I think it's a systemic problem that they can't keep the Doctors that they train because they dont pay wages that are comparable to civillians.

Yes, you can join the Military, get your Doctorate in Medicine, then serve (I think) 6 years of your time paying the military back for your education. Then you can leave for a better paying job in civillian life - without all those nasty student loans and debt.

Truth is, the money`s there to make the public system work. The political will isn`t. Is the public will there? Time will tell.
