That's pretty good news I guess. James, if the NDP comes back next May, still won't be abe to undo a lot of what Campbell has done because of NAFTA/FTA.

I have to agree, this is pretty exciting. Campbell is now publicly saying the next election is goint to be tough. Surrey is also a conservative place, so Campbell's policies must have caused a backlash. The NDP can't get overconfident, though. Warning to NDP: Don't get overconfident!!!
The NDP really needs to focus on how Campbell has sold us down the river. They cannot get over confident from this win, I agree, but it says a lot when a fairly affluent area goes NDP.
Things will be tight in 2005 but an NDP win is entirely possible. You'd think the Liberals would start to change direction when they go from all but two seats to a possible defeat in May 05. But no, instead we learn today that they are not giving up on contracting out to US firms even though their own privacy commissioner has warned this is a slippery slope. They just don't get it.
Just when the BC government has had some success in undoing ten years of NDP damage to the province, voters pick an NDP'er. Are BC'ers suckers for punishment or what?
Y'know what it comes down to? The BC NDP is revitalized with young energy. We canvas, we pull the vote, we're there to help the party. And do you know WHY the youth want the NDP to win in BC? Well, because we are the future and we know that selling off crown corporations and tearing up contracts is no way to build a future. We know that fast-tracking large projects just leads to environmental devastation. What it comes down to is this: the BC electorate had wisened up. This is more visible in the youth than anywhere else, and we will no longer stand for the type of abuse that Gordo continues to hand out. Give us another by-election and we'll give you another landslide. The fact is that BC'ers are fed up with Gordo's empty promises and bullshit lies. We don't want anti-gay-marriage MLA's... what we want is fair representation and a social conscience. And Gordo has never offered either.

I love these pro Liberal types. They always have the same argument. Ten years of NDP mismanagement. Yet, they never can actually come up with any specific evidence. Okay, granted the fast ferries were a mistake, I'll give them that one.
I'll tell you what being a sucker for punishment would be. It would be voting for 4 more years of Campbell and his lies and his privatization schemes, and his selling off of our assets. Is that not being a sucker for punishment Anon?
Give us some evidence of good the Liberals have done Anon instead of coming on this board and posting silly little messages.
The more affluent areas of Surrey voted Liberal, and the rest voted NDP. Guess that shows just for whom all that "undoing" was restricted to...................
Rural BC has suffered more than urban centres. While voting right is more ingrained in rural regions, they are hurting badly.
Schools are closing. Government-run liquor stores are being replaced by private ones opening up beside schools. Health care waiting lists are skyrocketing. Health care is being centralized, leaving the rural areas to suffer. Women's centres are closing. Mental health support has been abandoned. Homeless people are showing up in small towns all over the province as Gordo heavy-handedly kicks them out of Vancouver. School budget shortages are manifesting as 4-day school weeks without any proper studies to see how this will affect the quality of education. High schools have as many as 35 students to a class now.
And there are all these expensive projects that Gordo is wasting money on (not to mention his government gave themselves a pay raise). Gordo is paving roads that no one has ever asked to have paved in rural BC.
In short, Gordo likes to spend money on THINGS and not people. And it's more pronounced in rural BC than it is in Vancouver.
There are a lot of people hurting in small towns. Gordo has successfully alienated just about every special interest group in the province.

The Liberals are the least popular in rural BC. Many people in Nelson BC have SOS flags outside thier homes. They stand for Save our Services. They will most definitely not win in rural BC. Urban areas maybe.
Gordo and the "liberals" are intent on "shutting down" the BC interior. BC's wealth still resides in the natural resources, and his aim is to make it possible for his "friends" to rape the province, without all those prying eyes. He is relying on the lower mainland to be his voter base (Surrey notwithstanding), so we can expect the "plums" of Liberal fiscal "prudence" to be used "liberally" throughout the lower mainland, Okanagan, south island, and the rest of the province be damned.
It's really not much different than "King Ralph" only charging "royalties" of $4/bbl, when he could be receiving as much as $20, as Norway does. The idea is to pump as much of the stuff as possible, and to stuff his friends pockets in the process. Same here with lumber............

Campbell, read my lips - You're outta here next time around.
And to think I live in Ontario.
Oh well.
