Canuck Soldiers Head To Kandahar

Posted on Tuesday, June 28 at 09:02 by FootPrints
Defence Department spokesman Capt. Darren Steele said the team will build lines of communication and infrastructure for Canada's first reconstruction team. "They've got a lot of work to do," Steele said. The 250-member reconstruction team will be made up of Edmonton soldiers, mainly from 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, and members of the Canadian International Development Agency, Foreign Affairs Canada, the RCMP and non-governmental organizations. They'll have additional protection from Canada's elite commandos, Joint Task Force 2. The team is tasked not only to stabilize the violent province but also to help rebuild its institutions and political structures. Afghanistan's defence minister has warned of Iraqi-scale bloodshed, and U.S. officials say the fighting in Afghanistan will intensify in the coming months as Taliban and al-Qaida fighters work to destabilize national assembly elections in September. http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Canada/2005/06/27/1106633-sun.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on June 28, 2005]

Here is a little tip for the troops. There are two main ways that ladies cook their food in the countryside. The first is to gather a whole bunch of manure patties, mixed with straw, let it dry out, then add it to the cooking fire. The second way is to go to that REALLY big pile of clean poppy-stalks in the compound and collect a few sticks for the fire. The latter method is very popular with the lady of the house.
Although communications and infrastructure are important, perhaps we could also plant some drought tolerant shady trees and woody bushes while we're there- good for us, good for them.

Perhaps the Canadian troops could also share the virtues of Same Sex Marriage with the Afghans while they are there.

Don't worry Davie, they won't be doing any fighting. Garrison duty, cooking, cleaning, boot polishing, but fighting, I don't think so. Remember, Canadians are lovers, not fighters.

Yup There's that spiteful Borg mantality again. Canadians resisting assimilation with Uncle Scam. Too Bad. You only get to decide what happens in YOUR country, stop being so greedy.

(It seems to me we are going to war. In order to keep the peace, there has to be some semblance of peace to begin with. What are they doing, just getting our toes wet, and monitoring our reactions to Canadian soldiers coming home in body bags? Seeing how well we might stomach even more?)<br />
