Harper The Hawk Sees Canada As A Home To U.S. Missiles.

Posted on Thursday, August 04 at 11:07 by canadabob
It is important to ask why would the U.S., and Stephen Harper, want to weaken the Non-Proliferation Treaty and speed up the arms race? It should be clear to everyone by now that the peace the world seeks cannot be attained by relying on nuclear weapons. Unfortunately on this issue it appears both Harper and Bush still have their heads stuck down a missile silo. If terrorism is the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes, then is the proliferation of nuclear weapons not terrorism? What is Harper thinking? Why is Harper singing Bush's song, when he should be singing "Oh Canada we stand on guard for thee"? Luckily Harper does not speak for Canada but unfortunately his comments will be viewed by Bush as Canadian encouragement. Therefore, in my view, Stephen Harper is both a danger to Canada and to world peace. Maybe Dr. Caleb knows more about this subject, but lets not be melodramatic. Canada hosting nuclear missiles is not a "threat to world peace" That's nonsense.

If anything, it would be better if we had our OWN nukes, as they help one gain the respect of the U.S., as shown with North Korea...also, why would Harper say something that would hurt his electoral chances?

I wish all of the know-it-alls would learn how many countries already have nukes before they make silly statements.....too bad Canada's pacificist utopian socialst leaders don't have the balls to build their own.

Hosting U.S. nukes here could be perceived as a threat against Russia.

Sorry but Canada having its own nukes is one of the stupidest things I have heard in a long time.

We have absolutely no need for them. Nobody wins a nuclear war and as soon as you have them, you are targeted even more than you might have been before. The more pointed at you, the more likely chance for an accidental launch.

Get rid of them all. THAT is the ONLY sure way.

Those of you that know me know that I happen to lie on the socialist side of things, however, I too, believe that Canada should create its own nukes. I know, it is sad to say, and I wish it wasn`t so, but if we can`t defend ourselves, then our country will continue to be kicked around by the US and who knows who else in the future when they need more resources! The existing nuclear powers will never get rid of their arms, and I think we are foolish to leave ourselves vulnerable. Beefing up the military and the weapons arsenal doesn`t mean you`re spoiling for a fight; quite the opposite in our case. But if we continue on the current path, we`ll be a country with resources controlled by outsiders, who have no concern for the people of Canada, and our standard of living for the majority of Canadians will fall to the level of 3rd world status!

Thank you Dave! I myself am socialist on some issues and conservative on others. I don't like left-right politics. One CAN be socialist and believe in a strong military.

What is it with people who thinks nukes make the world more dangerous? The world is already dangerous.

If North Korea and Iran had no nuclear weapons or interest in them, the United States probably would have attacked them by now.

The U.S.A. could be ready to go to war to prevent Iran from developing more nukes. If they already had many, it would never happen probably.

Harper at least goes on no pretense. How about our PM? Talking out of both sides of ones mouth is a basic requirement to be a politician.

Brother Jonathan, nuclear weapons are intercontinental--that's a totally different issue.

'Canadabob' you are clearly a mis-informed fool, it's amazing that you're allowed to post.

Perturbed,

an opponent of gun control would present a viewpoint remarkably similar to Dave’s above — that “if we can’t defend ourselves, then we’ll continue to be preyed upon by criminals whenever they need more of our money! The criminals will never get rid of their guns, and we’d be foolish to leave ourselves vulnerable.”

Certainly the scope varies from interpersonal to intercontinental between guns and nukes — I’m just surprised by the similarity of the reasoning.

---
[The people] will forget themselves, but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights.

Actually Canada may already have nuclear weapons. We have nuclear power plants. Just because you don't hear anything does not mean we don't have them. There was a poster on Canada Kicks Ass who said, I believe, his relative was a soldier in the Canadian Army and he had seen these tactical nuclear weapons that Canada has. Whether this is true, who knows, I would not be surprised. Nobody knew about JFT2 for a while. Nuclear weapons in Canada would be a classified secret.

Looks like we are in Missile Defense after all with regards to another article on this site. Paul Martin lies to the publice by saying no we are not in missile defense, while Mckenna says we clearly are. This is against the wishes of the Canadian people. Canada, a country run by traitors and sellouts.

Canada, technically, doesn't own Nukes. They belong to the US, but are still kept on Canadian soil.

What about Canadian made nuclear weapons?. Why would Canada need U.S. nuclear weapons. Are our leaders such terrified wimps that when the U.S. says you can only have ours you cannot make your own, they cower down to them. Just curious.

A slightly condensed version of this article was printed in this mornings edition of the Hamilton Spectator which is a paper that has a reported daily readership of 260,000. The newspaper gave it the heading "Harper a double danger." A fitting title.
