"WHERE WILL WE GET THE MONEY?" II: Towards Economic Democracy

'The Brian Mulroney Syndrome':
A party's redistribution of national wealth can be so headlong in response to its financial backers, that it destroys its own political base.

That happened when the Mulroney Conservative regime in Canada shifted the bulk of our money creation from the central bank to the private banks, and brought down the firewalls that had been set up between banks and great financial pools such as the stock market and insurance companies, and pensions.

This wiped out carefully crafted alliances that had led to the Conservative Party adding "Progressive" to its title in the first place. The result was the breakup of the historic party of John A. Macdonald. The Liberal Party today risks a similar fate. That adds up to the threatening breakdown of our political system, and an urgent need for proportional representation, a key subject at our conference.

I wondered what the hell was going on. I knew things changed after 1974 but I didn't think the Conservatives and Liberals would be this criminally negligent( and that is being kind and generous) in their governing roles.
How the Bank of Canada could work

It sounds like a good idea, but what I want to know is what economist came up with this idea? Paul Hellyer must have read it somewhere.

Hey I just read the part of that tutorial about Kingston & Squamish passing resolutions saying that the federal government using the Bank of Canada to fund municipalities. That's pretty cool, so it isn't just a bunch of wacko economists on the fringe of society ranting about monetary theory or something. hehe
