Posted on Wednesday, January 05 at 11:28 by KevinGagnon

Canada is receiving its first influx of Americans fleeing the United States because they are distraught with the re-election of President Bush.

Immigration Canada, the government agency, has approved the first visas and families such as the Kilbournes of Seattle now are searching for a home in British Columbia, reports the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Poor folk. As proud as Americans are it surely must hurt to leave. But Canadians must welcome them with open arms. I think we can benefit from each others` friendship. And surely, when the climate south of the 49th improves some day, we can wish them all the best when some, if not all, return home.

Unless they become really good comedians, keep 'em up there.

It will be an adjustment for them, getting used to just how omnipresent and intrusive government is up here. They'll also have to get use to the smug moralizing and condescending attitude of Canadians towards all things American. It's the one asterisk on our otherwise spotless nice guy image.

The fact that these people fled life under Bush doesn't mean that they'll agree with every ignorant anti-American remark spewing from the cakehole of some know-it-all Canadian. Unlike other immigrants, who have tax money thrown at them to preserve their cultural identities, expatriate Americans will be expected to bury and renounce their "culture and heritage".

Sounds like they're already there and happily so. They're more than welcome to their patriot act and HMO's.

"just how omnipresent and intrusive government is up here." Funny thing we don't have a Patriot (sic) Act, nor the vile Stalinistic "Search and Seizure" nor 50 year sentences for pot, nor "Three Strikes", nor 6 secret police forces, nor do Canadians get massacred by their govt as at Waco, MOVE, etc, nor do we squander $400 billion on military nonsense, etc, etc.

True - we don't have to step up to the plate on any issue when we have Americans providing all of our security for free, an open market in which to sell our resources and exports etc. etc.

Canadians demonstrate that they like to be simple-minded and isolationist, it is much easier than participating in the world, so we don't participate much and let others make all the big decisions for us. Easy.

Anon would you give up the anti-american b.s. That is a label people like yourself make up. It has no truth at all. The majority of Canadians like Americans I'm sure.

Get it in your head. Its Bush not the Americans. Its very easy to see that. Anti-Bush yes. Anti-American NOPE.

I delivered to an American the other day who moved her cause she met a Canadian guy. I thought I would ask her a few questions, and her answers were predictable. She said she liked Canada. She said she was especially happy that she is here now that Bush got re-elected. She said many of her family back home feel unhappy also that he got re-elected. She told me that when she lived in the U.S she had health care through the company she worked for, but she realized that she had to work for that. She explained how some people who are not working, who don't have health care do get refused when needing care.

The "influx" has a way to go before it reaches the number of Canadians moving to the U.S. Are we to understand the lady above who "had" to work for her health care found this objectionable? Didn't she work for her clothes, her car and her pizza? Someone should tell her the government north of the border, like governments everywhere, produces no wealth. The "free" health care she'll be getting is paid for by money taken from people. With socialism becoming more rooted in the Canadian ethos, Ottawa will be digging its hand deeper into pockets. Castro will approve of this as the two governments become look-alikes. Thanks to the northern winters, the flies will never be as bad as in Havana.

Isolationist? That`s funny. Canadians are actually alot more worldly that you care to see. Just because we want to preserve our country doesn`t make us as xenophobic as maybe some other countries. US protection for free? That`s even funnier! The US never wanted Canada to defend herself! And given the cheap resources they get from Canada at bargain basement prices, I`d say they`re leeching off of Canada! We`ve been a better friend to the US than the US has been to Canada!

Once again, A-non, you have totally avoided my point and go off on some red herring tangent

People chose to ignore your "point" from kindness.

Any American who's love of country is dependant on if their candidate of choice won the election, who leaves the country when they lose, is not welcome back. Leave and don't come back, we don't want that kind of trash anyhow. We have tens of thousands of Mexicans risking life and limb to get into our country illegally every year, just so they can have a chance at becoming a citizen and living the american dream.

And yes I'm sure you Canadians will give these Americans a 'nice warm welcome'. These idiots are in for a surprise, and they deserve every bit of grief that they get.

I have nothing but contempt for these empty-headed morons.
