"The place of women in decision-making bodies has always been a core issue for the women's movement. The Government of Quebec also shares this goal," stated Ms. St-Pierre. "Quebec is able to rely on the expertise of many, highly-qualified women who have the necessary skills and have demonstrated their commitment to society. Their presence in decision-making processes helps provide a more accurate picture of the diversity of opinions and values. Ultimately, the decisions made better reflect this diversity."
The funds provided by the Government of Canada ($1.05 million over three years) and by the Government of Quebec ($600,000 over three years) will enable the Groupe Femmes, Politique et Démocratie to offer leadership training to some 600 women in four regions of Quebec. This partnership will also allow the Groupe Femmes, Politique et Démocratie to play a key mentoring role with about 100 Quebec women interested in engaging in the democratic process. It will also support an annual networking event for all participants and partners of the Centre de développement femmes et gouvernance. For their part, ENAP and the Groupe Femmes, Politique et Démocratie will provide expertise and logistical services estimated at $300,000 and $150,000 respectively over three years.
The goal of the Centre de développement femmes et gouvernance is to offer training to women who demonstrate, through their potential and commitment, an interest in participating in democratic life and decision-making bodies. The three main areas covered by the training will be leadership, mentoring and networking.
"ENAP is proud to contribute, through the Centre de développement femmes et gouvernance, to strengthening the presence of women in power circles within the government machinery, both in the political and administrative spheres, stated Mr. Proulx, Director General of ENAP. We are convinced that training is a powerful means for promoting those that aspire to play a major role in governing the State.
