Bush Moves Toward Martial Law

Posted on Monday, October 30 at 07:44 by drcaleb
President Bush seized this unprecedented power on the very same day that he signed the equally odious Military Commissions Act of 2006. In a sense, the two laws complement one another. One allows for torture and detention abroad, while the other seeks to enforce acquiescence at home, preparing to order the military onto the streets of America. Remember, the term for putting an area under military law enforcement control is precise; the term is "martial law." Section 1076 of the massive Authorization Act, which grants the Pentagon another $500-plus-billion for its ill-advised adventures, is entitled, "Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies." Section 333, "Major public emergencies; interference with State and Federal law" states that "the President may employ the armed forces, including the National Guard in Federal service, to restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition in any State or possession of the United States, the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of ("refuse" or "fail" in) maintaining public order, "in order to suppress, in any State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy." http://towardfreedom.com/home/content/view/911/ [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 30, 2006]

I see it as a pity that this kind of information doesn't draw the responses that the dust-up flame wars do.

That would be 'anti-American'. To argue for the continued freedom of our southern cousins, I mean.

But, on the bright side, at least they are doing something to counter the post-Katrina lack of direction the Whitehouse was criticized for.

We'll just have to wait and see what plans George will be coming up with to make him a permanent president. He has so far shown that there is no law he won't or can't change to his liking. Canada has a mini-Bush and should be very cautious as to what is about to happen. One may ask if George will use "his" military against his own people.

Over the years I've heard so many people complain about various actions and inactions of our gov'ts and a lot of those people have said "What's wrong with people in this country anyways? Americans would never stand for that!".
Now look what the Americans are allowing.

I recall reading about Bush being installed as a dictator. It was one of those items that didn’t draw the kind of in depth attention it deserved.

The point I will hammer on until it is drilled home is when the puppet is focused on the behind the scenes folks tend to get ignored. To continue with the theatre analogy the Playwrights, Directors, Backers Admen, Producers and Promoters are the ones we all must be concerned with and brought into the spotlight.

It would matter not if Sir Laurence Olivier or Tiny Tim where to play the lead as Shakespeare noted the PLAY is the thing. To be critical of the actor and what he may bring to the part is tertiary at best.

Now look what the Americans are allowing. <<

Look at what we Canadians are doing. The protests this weekend were shown by the media and the poor turn out attributed to the Canadian majority supports the Afghanistan invasion. Harper keeps us in the dark and we are unaware of what's happening in the background. It's not apathy but the lack of knowing until it's sprung on us. Vivelecanada seems to be a rare spot where "some" of the hidden is exposed. What's happening now, that we are not privy to?
It's a lot easier to hide a secret in a crowd. There are close to 300,000 Americans. There are so many governing bureaucrats with so many private meetings, no one could ever keep track. To top it off, the American buraucrats do their best to keep the American population ill informed. Harper is no different.

We see so little of it. The odd time Bush has to defend his Cronies in front of a Senate but nothing is ever heard of the result. It's a stage as you pointed out. The players are to appease the mass's untill it's to late. Perhaps it's to late now. Conspiracies within conspiracies.

Yeah I thought you were a few zeros short |:-]
Well you are right, we need to also be aware of how our wonderful "new government" is conducting themselves in their relations with and in relation to Washington. Harper has taken so many pages from the Bush book of governance that it's hard to imagine a limit to the extent to which he is willing to go to mimmick the government and the country he is so envious of.
