"Scott Ritter is a former UN weapons inspector in Iraq (1991-1998) and the author of 'Frontier Justice: Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Bushwhacking of America', published by Context Books"

It's funny there must be over a thousand books about the Bush Regime and to think there are still people on this website that debate the relevance of all the 'anti-american gov't' talk! Maybe it's time they joined on so they could realise who and what policies are catching on here in Canada before they do. Even if you subscribe to the 'leftist conspiracy' reassurance, you must be able to see a pattern of mendacity in American politics today.

Maybe funny was the wrong word.

The attack on the UN is part of a larger plan. Let us remember now that is the very same UN that called America on the lies about Iraq. Kofi Annan is an obvious target as he dared mutter - "illegal" in relation to Iraq. Say what you will about the UN, but it is far better to have what is there than the law of the jungle. And that is the end game plan of the US - to do away with the UN, and set up a new body more in line with its own views.

Evidence? Look at the attacks not only on Kofi Annan, but on the one person most in the way of new charges of "they (insert country) have weapons of mass destruction", Mohamed ElBaradei. He is not being targeted for removal because he was not doing his job, he is being targeted for doing it too well. There is little support outside the usual suspects from other countries for ElBaradei to be replaced.

If the US can succeed in controlling or doing away with the UN, next would be the ICC, which the US has bullied and threatened many countries for supporting. The Bush government has already established a clear track record on what it thinks of international institutions and treaties.

If the people of the United States want to go it alone, that is their free choice. American people should understand that when Canadians voice their displeasure of US government moves in the international arena, it is not an 'anti-american' attack on them, it is warranted criticism of the government of the day. Americans need to understand that American actions have ramifications around the world. When America leaves its borders, it opens itself to criticism and exploration of fact from others, including Canadians.

The UN is most certainly a target of the US and few others, as it clearly stands in the way of further moves by the current US government.

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

I don't think the Liberals or Cons will be of any assistance in keeping the UN intact either. They're both too concerned about what the US would want rather than what is good for Canadians or world peace.

Apologists for the United Nations remind us of the apologists for the Soviet Union that came before them - naive but with a mean streak.

So Kofi Annan's son wasn't recieving cheques for doing nothing? So Saddam didn't take the money and build Palaces? Totalfina wasn't making a tidy profit from sanctions? All this fraud is just a figment of everyone's imagination? You guys probably vote Liberal too, despite the millions taken from average Canadians for their friends.

I notice whenever someone exposes the Bush game plan, someone always jumps in to deny it without producing any evidence. I must say, we all are getting tired of you interrupting adult conversations. Why don't you go play with your marbles?

What are you going to say when the Big DEPRESSION hits (the one you are supporting), and you have no food, no job, no social security, no house? I guess you can say that Bush did a really good job.

Apologists? Man on man, what a dork.
Yeah the UN is doing such bad things for the world.
