Health Care Reform As If People Mattered

Posted on Monday, October 03 at 21:45 by Spud
Ubaldina has a lot to be proud of, including the brand new building that will serve as her health post. Built and supplied by contributions from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through Bolivia's Social Investment Fund, this is one of 10 new primary health care centres in the district of San Lorenzo. CIDA also supports a special pilot project which was implemented by the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH). It's part of the Bolivian government's wide-ranging health reform program, the aim of which is to bring health care to all its citizens. http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/cidaweb/webcountry.nsf/VLUDocEN/D4FA1E6090E1EE9685256E82004F3A94 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on October 5, 2005]

I'm all for helping those in need... including ourselves. How can we effectively aid other nations, when our own system leaders are hacking up provincial services and selling them to private US companies (ex. BC Medical, Terasen etc.)? I believe we should be focusing on strengthening our own systems before handing out too much to others. A castle must be fortified before it can truly be a refuge.
