"We're asking that the Prime Minister honour the fact that he did not receive the support of the majority of Canadians," Mr. Layton said. "He did not receive a majority in the House of Commons and therefore he requires a debate on this topic in this House of Commons before he signs off on such a fundamentally important issue."...

...The NDP also confirmed Friday that it will present a proposal to Parliament in the fall on changing the voting system to proportional representation...

Canada is seemingly so unimportant to Jack Layton that he wouldn't even want somebody else to defend the country. Missile defence will happen though, and it will protect Canada regardless of wether we want it to or not. Canadians can choose to participate in their own defence, which gives us some say in it, or just allow others to do it all for us, in which case we'll not only have no say in it, we won't even know that it's going on. Canada is beginning to favour isolationism in world affairs, and it makes little difference to us or the world, to favour isolationism within North America truly reveals an unwillingness to deal with the outside world at all - Canada itself as an Ivory Tower.

STraight from the mouth of the wholly uniformed.

Missile defence will protect nobody. It does not even work. If you care to prove otherwise in you are more than welcome but I will not hold my breath.

That was virtually the same excuse that Trudeau and Mulroney used to gut the Canadian military. "We don't need one, 'cause the Yankees will defend us......"

You DO realise of course, that the Yankees need a shooting gallery to knock down incoming missles in, don't you?

What use is missile defense, troll? Who's going to be shooting missiles at us? Russia? Don't make me laugh. Terrorists? Third-world nations? China? They don't have the infrastructure.

The only people who have the capability and, given the pResident's apparent habit of declaring war on anyone who makes him look bad, incentive are the Americans.

So please explain again how going halfsies on missile defense benefits Canada in ANY WAY?

The only benefit I see in this issue is that the wee Canadian politicians get to share a table with the big boys, and we should not deny them this great privilege. Also why shouldn't Canada make a donation to the corporate welfare, we do it all the time, supporting an underprivileged country like the U.s. is obviously the right thing to do. How selfish can we be? We didn't play the war came, so now it is our turn, we must pay to play.

It is just like the Free Trade deals, tell us nothing and make us believe it is a great day to sign on to this new war plan, it'll keep us all so safe. Meanwhile countries all over the planet will starve their people so they can invest in the game. All priorities are screwed up, when you have no food and will probably die shortly, is being protected from space really the best use of resources?

If this wasn't so darn serious, it would be laughable!
