Softwood Deal Could Hurt NAFTA

Posted on Saturday, June 03 at 10:49 by drcaleb
Some suspect Harper wants to formally ink the deal with U.S. President George W. Bush when the pair meet in Washington in early July. Harper and his cabinet like to point to the tentative pact as proof that his minority Conservative government is forging a much tighter relationship with the Bush administration than the Liberals had. Continuing to rely on litigation "is a long road" fraught with peril, said Ken Higginbotham, vice-president of Canfor Corp., Canada's largest lumber producer. "What we have before us is not perfect, but is far better than the alternative." http://lfpress.ca/newsstand/Business/2006/06/01/1609110-sun.html

In Harper's rush to get his priorities set in motion he had no idea of what havoc he was about to cause nor the consequences of his actions. I hope this hurts NAFTA to death! I may find reason yet to congratulate Harper for something he had a hand in.

So much for a tentative deal to pay the US lawyers half a billion dollars - from Canadian pockets.

I wonder what the BC Government's hand was in this deal - particularly Rich Coleman's influence?
