Then you read an other artical saying Dr. Rice has problems convincing other countries to join in. We all know that the USA is flaunting Iran in attempt to make them strike back. Perhaps the world is getting tired of doing battle in the middle east. We do know that Harper will send the troops from Afghanistan to Iran upon Bush's go. Other countries who hesitate, will be caught in a trap if their troops are in Afghanistan. Canadian will be envolved in "the other war" instead.

"We do know that Harper will send the troops from Afghanistan to Iran upon Bush's go."

We do? I don't know that. Especially since The Right Honourable Micheal Jean is the MFWIC. If she says 'no', it's 'NO'.

I do hope you are right. Harper may not love a good killing as much as Bush but he really likes the strut.

Yes, my understanding is that the GG can say 'no' to a minority government and bring it down, therefore she could say no to Canada participating in a war against Iran, at least until a so-called "majority" government is reformed out of a miniorty of votes (typically about 20-25%).

As far as the GG is concerned, everything seems to be A-Okay with Canada's involvement in the on-going wars in Haiti and Afghanistan, therefore attacking Iran may be just as A-Okay with the GG, we simply don't know.

The point is that the Canadian people cannot rely on politicians and their many appointees to do the right thing, or even follow the will of the minority of people who elected them.

Has there ever been a time the GG had said "no" to any government?

AFAIK in the 1920's, and after that they reduced the powers of the GG to even lower theoretical levels.

Yes, B. Google for 'King - Bing affair', and you'll see that nothing has changed WRT the GG's ability to do it again.

It does not happen very often, about once per century, but yes the GG can always raise up a good stink.
