Canada Shutout Of Supplier List To Rebuild Iraq

Posted on Tuesday, December 09 at 21:52 by tundraboy
Here's mud in your eye. Paul Wolfowitz (you remember him from www.newamericancentury.org) has issued a document stating which countries are allowed to submit bids for the rebuilding of Iraq, and Canada is not among them. Tell me, what IS the definition of 'closest trading partner'? Is it ok to be snubbed?

We see weekly how they beg and plead for other nations to help by sending cannon fodder to help bail them out of their illegal adventure then they turn around and issue this piece of news.

France, Germany, Canada and Russia were right, we are still right and always will be. Let them enjoy their blood money - we dont need it.

It doesn\'t matter that we are getting shot at in Afghanistan, once you snub shrub you\'re outta here !!

You\'re right. Let them keep it all.

Boy, I\'d hate to get Dubya mad at us, he might do something REALLY stupid.

He holds a grudge, that one. Remember that.

Yeah, I agree, I don`t want Canada being associated with imperialism and blood money! The USA looks more ridiculous every day when they say something like ,\" Come help us in Iraq, but we`re still runnin` the show,\" or when they shut out other countries from the rebuilding process. Let them have their little greed fest. History will judge US foreign policy of the 20th and 21st century in the same light as Nazi Germany!

No, not really. If they're going to use the excuse of 'for national security reasons' they shouldn't follow it with 'Canada and Canadian Companies can become subcontractors to approved countries" line of B.S.<p> So the people that gave the US the thumbs up get the fresh Pork, the rest of us have to go off the subcontracts.<p> I realize we can't have it both ways (support the war and profit on reconstruction) but who is the US's biggest trading partner here?<p> Not like I didn't say this kind of thing wouldn't <a href='http://www.vivelecanada.ca/article.php?story=20031030142254129'> happen</a> in my infamous 'Bar Fight' analogy. The US has taken it's ball and gone home.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain

One, I\'m not surprised at all that Canada wasn\'t invited (we tend to like to keep some things regulated/public, or used to anyway, and of course the U.S. holds a grudge against us for not participating)and two, if Canada were participating, we\'d be helping rob Iraqis of their sovereignty, and helping remake the country in the image of \"free market\" principles.

Naomi Klein has talked about how the \"reconstruction\" is really rebuilding Iraq in America\'s image--ie. U.S. companies, privatized services etc. That means things that were previously nationalized in Iraq have been privatized by the U.S. even though it\'s completely illegal even under the US army\'s own rules to change laws that radically and even though (and in fact, especially because) there\'s no working democracy there yet--democracy tends to get in the way of such things after all.

    Blood money, definitely.

It IS a bit odd considering Cellucci said a little while ago that Canada-US relations were back to normal and that we'd stepped up to the plate. <p> So was he lying? <p> See: <a href="http://www.vivelecanada.ca/article.php?story=2003090910530851">US and Canada AOK now</a>

They are shutting us out of our own money! Canada has given or pledged $300 million to date. If they want to play games I say we withdraw the cash not already handed over.

I feel for the Iraqi people but Iraq is far from finished at this point. The Iraqi people need open elections and then they can decide what to do with the money we give.

Besides that Canada has the most troops inside Afghanistan beyond America and this is how they treat their friends and allies.

Do we need any more proof that we are not dealing with a traditional American government?

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

They are becoming more and more authoritarian. That used to be the trademark of the Soviet Union.

Maybe there isn\'t much difference between the two systems, except capitalism makes many millionaires.

Then again, the ordinary Soviet citizen was poor, while the elite lived it up.

I think that allowing either system to run amok is really more of the same.

Capitalcommunism. There, I just coined a new word.
