If I could be there I would.I have a lot of questions for this fascist tyrant.

I would like to know who is paying him and how much, for acting as the real estate agent for the sale of Canada. Also, why doesn't he admit that he was a mole in the Liberal Party with his views and actions, like the MAI and now, always reeking from the smell of Mulroney's hand ?

    Ed Deak. Big Lake, BC.

He apparently is on the corporate board of a company that makes biometric ID...that's one reason he supports NAFTA+ etc....

Do left-wingers who throw the word "fascist" around like it was some harmless schoolyard insult realize just how ridiculous they sound? If the left in Canada wonder why they can't, even in the era of Bush and his irresponsible foreign policy, make significant gains in terms of mindshare in this country, one need only point to their shrillness and willingness to cry wolf at every noise they hear.

I guess it sounds about as silly as the right-wingers calling anyone or anything that departs from their blinkered dogmatic corporate-capitalist view "communist", "socialist", or as is the case in the US "liberal".

Funny how the neo-cons like to dish out the perjoratives, but have a heck of a time taking it when it turns around to bite them in the ass.

Only the blind or purposely ignorant can't see the obvious.

The 14 characteristics of fascism are:

    Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottoes, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.CHECK- no explanation needed

Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.CHECK-gitmo, afghanistan, Iraq, rendition

Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. CHECK-anyone muslim, gay, or 'liberul'.

    Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.CHECK-definately no explanation needed.

    Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.CHECK

    Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.CHECK-the most corporate owned media in the world, in the hands of just a few mulitinationals. The same corporate heads also have companies making weapons and profiting from the war directly.

    Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.CHECK-no explantion needed

    Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.CHECK-faith based initiatives, "God Bless America", rightwing christians and rapturists dominate republican party.

    Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.CHECK-$200 + million spent by bush to be re-elected 95% from corporations and their heads. Just yesterday - A federal judge Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed on behalf of some 4 million Vietnamese claiming that U.S. chemical companies committed war crimes by making Agent Orange for use during the Vietnam War. Not to mention the 'bankruptcy bill' which also just went through the system - designed by the credit card agency - one of the exclusions overturned - cap on interest rates at 30%. There are hundreds more examples but are just two from yesterday alone.

    Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.CHECK-it is no secret the bushies hate union labour.

Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.CHECK-rampant censorship on university campuses now under way. Bush admits to never reading or being intereted in the arts. People arrested for 'buck fush' T-shirts. No child left behind being SERVERLY underfunded making America one of the lowest among industrialized nations for test scores.

    Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.CHECK-just today Rice the Liar told the UN that the last protection for foreigners charged with capital crimes will be removed. Still execute children and mentally handicaped - one of the last nations to do so. THE LARGEST prison population in the world - by far. Even more than China who has 3 times the population.

    Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.CHECK-Haliburton et al - enough said.

    Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.CHECK-2000 election, manipulatin of the media by their ownership, electronic voting machines made by companies donating to republican party, no recount in Ohio, and on and on and on. Far too much hanky panky to be dismissed. World monitors last US election for first time, putting them in company with much of the third world.
