Canada Will Back U.S. Missile Plan, Cellucci Says

"We continue to hope that Canada makes a positive decision on the missile defence program, which we believe is consistent with the mission of Norad." Participation in missile defence represents a potentially explosive issue for the federal Liberals and could conceivably bring down their minority government......... www.canada.com/dawsoncreek/story.html?id=ba8d1375-6044-4138-a408-6e2dca47508f Canada will back U.S. missile plan, Cellucci says OTTAWA - The United States believes federal government will back the missile defence plan, says Paul Cellucci, the U.S. ambassador to Canada. Canada will join the plan before the end of March, Cellucci told the Canadian Press on Sunday. He said "yes" when asked if the federal government would support the controversial project. "We've been told that it will be dealt with over the next couple of months," he told CP......... www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/01/09/missile-cellucci050109.html Now might be a good time to fire off another batch of personalized e-mails to the government--at these addresses especially: Martin.P@parl.gc.ca (Prime Minister) Graham.B@parl.gc.ca (Minister of Defence) Remembebr, every e-mail or letter is considered to represent hundreds or thousands of people who care about an issue, as most people don't bother sending a message.

It's about time Canada signed on with missile defence, the Prime Minister has dithered too long. Missile defence is an easy bonus for Canada - we don't have to pay for it, no part of it will be on Canadian soil and we get a seat at our own defence table and a say in what's happening, it's another free ride.

Where is it said "this will be a free ride". There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

I just love the dittoheads when they repeat the same old tired lines from the National Post and CanWest Global. They really don't think for themselves - as exemplified by the first comment here.

Get a seat at the table - for what? Like they are really going to listen to us when we don't offer up $ or land!

Missile defense doesn't even work! But that does not matter to the boot licker crowd. When you buy a new car and it has no tires are you satisfied? You probably are when they tell you it is the new rightwing dream...

The right in their foaming at the mouth to do anything Bush wants us to do ignore everything else including that little thing called reality.

    The reality is:
Over 50 Billion spent to date and there has never been one real world test that has been successful. Actually, they have never even tested it in real world settings, because they know it would fail, just like every other rigged test.

Russia and China are already developing new missiles that will get through any shield - especially this one that doesn't even work.

Missile defence is not about 'defence' it is all about offense for the US neocons and their agenda of ruling the world through fear and intimidation. Remember that little thing called 'pre-emptive policy'. Sure you do, but you think it's just fine to let the US - the worlds largest rogue state - do what it wants.

Even IF it ever did work, it still is easy to get around - smuggle a warhead in with the tens of thousands of tons of illegal drugs or millions of immigrants that get into the US every single year. 9/11 proved that terrorists will find a way, they don't play by the rules.

No rogue nation is going to ever launch against the US - it is a case of seeing themselves destroyed. No missile launch anywhere on earth goes unnoticed, and they are easily traced back to the source. But don't let that little reality stop you from boot licking.

I really am sick of the rightwing sellouts in Canada. They want to see a new arms race, the one that has already started, because they don't care. That is one trade mark of any far right boot licker in Canada, they don't care about their fellow man.

There is only ONE WAY to ensure that there is no nuclear weapons use - get rid of them all. That includes the largest stockpile in the world shared between Russia and the US. But that thinking is too simple for our quislings, they would rather the world go out with a bang because missile defence is simply a pipe-dream that makes them all fuzzy inside. Sort of like Iraqis welcoming US soldiers with flowers and kisses.

Thank God the rightwing is such a tiny minority in Canada for they would be the end of us all.

Hey, that's the same text from another post - talk about having pat answers to every question, left-wing reactionary rhetoric all ready to go off on any topic - a bit boring.

I like how the left-wingers advocate the 'nuke'em all philosophy' when it comes to defence - just to be clear on this:

The Canadian left-wing advocates a massive nuclear retaliation after North America gets attacked rather than defending North America from attack in the first place. That's a brilliant philosophy, better hope it's not your town.

Luddites on the left also scream that it doesn't work, it'll work fine soon enough, but if it doesn't - what do Canadian left-wingers care? It'll start an arms race? the race is already on, it never stopped actually, grow up and figure it out.

Disarmament is a great thing - if you can get everybody else to go first. Canada has disarmed itself knowing that we're protected by the US, Canadians don't mind this so it doesn't matter. But weakness has never been a good negotiating position for anything, if weakness was a good thing that got results - Canada would be leading the world toward peace instead of sitting on the international sidelines, totally ignored.

    Muffin mouth responds, and fails.

I never said anything about MAD. But hey, lie if it makes you feel good.

The arms race was under control dittohead. Numerous arms reductions treaties were underway or already being adhered to. Bush absolved America from them all. That has nothing to do with the left and everything to do with the antisocial, world hating rightwing.

50 years and 50 billion dollars and the rightwing claims it will work. Yah sure, and Iraqis love Americans for bringing them democracy American style, and Osama hates America for its freedoms. Reality, it's a bitch, maybe you will catch on to it some day.

My favourite line from this dittohead - Canada disarmed itself because America will protect us. Protect us from what? Protect us from whom? Who is OUR enemy? Canada already spends billions on its military and is number six on dollars spent among our NATO allies. Bloody hell, there is that reality thing again. Why should Canada spend more to protect America from itself? Really now?

Ignorance is bliss, war is peace, freedom is slavery. Orwell was only 20 years off with this crowd.

Canada is not ignored - only to the rightwing quislings and sellouts. Canada is admired around the world because we are a free and democratic nation based on a social system. Canada is not hated around the world like the US. No matter how many trillions of dollars the US spends, it will still be hated, and continue to be a target from those it pisses off. Canada is NOT a target because we are a part of the world community and as such would see that ruined overnight if we side with the US. But that doesn't matter to you does it?

Rightwingers - when will you learn that you are in the minority for a reason.

Nonsense. Nothing is free. I fear that BMD will lock us into spiralling defence expeditures that choke off the funding for other more typically Canadian priorities (you know - fruity stuff like health care). As for having a say, we will get diddly - probably an advisory fuction like we have now in NORAD.

The fact that we have disarmed ourselves, and don't even monitor our own territory, may make loopy leftists all proud of their prostrate position right now. But when other nations are picking and choosing what they would like from what we used to consider 'our' Arctic - it won't seem so funny.

Al-Qeada says Canada is a target, suicide bombers have attacked and killed Canadians in Afghanistan, a couple dozen Canadians died in the WTC attacks - but you're sympathetic to them because they're extremely anti-American, regardless of the fact that they consider you an infidel piece of dirt.

No free rides? Canada has enjoyed one for decades. That's why there's hardly anything left of your military.

This beautifully demonstrates the passive, inert Canadian nature. The anti-missile defense system doesn't work now, therefore it never will. That's the spirit! The same one that took the many possibilites of Canada and did nothing except develop a one-party state and a national health service that doesn't work all that good, unless you see standing in line as a productive use of time. Even that isn't going to work much longer. (Hint: a 10-month waiting list for the maternity ward is a VERY bad sign). I gather in leftist parlance "bootlicker" is not bad manners but means "person of intelligence."

Thats the best you have to say missile defence is good for Canada? that's really sad.

Rather weak response to say the least.

    lets start with:
"The fact that we have disarmed ourselves"
Some fact - Canada spends billions every single year on the military and ranks sixth overall among NATO countries. Facts... something you choose to ignore.

"Al-Qeada says Canada is a target"
Another lie, never has Canada been singled out. Only in one translated speach from Osama was this mentioned, but one little thing... it was a lie. Only in the US government edition did it say that, in every other translation made around the world there was no mention of Canada. Facts... they are making you look even more silly.

    "killed Canadians in Afghanistan"
Yep Canadians did die, fighting in a real war against a real enemy, but thing is, you just said "we have disarmed ourselves". If we have no army how did Canadians die? You really aren't helping your losing cause.

"you're sympathetic to them because they're extremely anti-American"
This is one of my favourite rightwinger fables. If you speak against war and killing you MUST be for the terrorists. Bush would wet his pants if he heard you repeating his best line. "anti-american" is a line best used by those without an arguement of their own so they choose to shut down discourse by resorting to the absurd. So right back at you, you want Canada to be a target, so therefor you MUST be anti-Canadian. Hey if it works for the donkey, it must work for the mule. Pretty stupid logic eh?

"they consider you an infidel piece of dirt."
This just shows that you know nothing about reality and recent history. If you know so much about what Osama says, then you would know that he specifically said right before the US elections - don't screw with us, and we won't screw with you. Direct quote - "This is contrary to Bush's claim that we hate freedom. Let him tell us why we did not strike Sweden, for example." Once again, facts and reality blow a direct hole in your rightwing talking points. Go to freedominion and peddle your snake oil - we know facts here and as such are not going to fall for such utter nonsense.

  12. Tue Jan 11, 2005 3:44 am
Behold the twisted logic of the rightwing. They will say anything no matter how absurd or silly.

Give it 50 more years, and $50 billion more, it will work some day! Hey so what if the rest of the world comes to hate us for it, and builds up their own nuke arsenals! So what! It will work some day! Spoken like Bush when it comes to Iraq - the more people that die, the closer they are getting to 'freedum' and demockracy.

You probably think Vietnam can still be won too I bet.

Rightwingers, you must pity the poor souls. The only thought they think for themselves: Do I wipe the brown from my nose with the left hand or the right?

Little translation for you: Bootlicker - aka - useful idiot. Cheap labour conservatives love non-thinkers, it keeps them in business.

  13. Tue Jan 11, 2005 4:23 am
There's always hardly been anything left of our military, until we get involved in a war. Happened during WWI, and WWII.

Sixth in NATO spending is not a free ride. Get your facts straight.
