Agent Orange Petition

Posted on Saturday, August 20 at 18:01 by Wayne Coady
It has been reported that the parliamentary committee studying the spraying is only focusing on sprayings during the years of 1966 and 1967. This baffles and angers the Canadian public. At a time when so many people who have been affected by the chemical sprayings are disillusioned, angered and frustrated it is time for the parliamentary committee to stop the denials and do the right thing. Canada and the world are watching Mr. Prime Minister. This story will not go away. In this "Year of the Veteran" the actions of this committee and your government will say much about Canada as a nation. Sincerely, The Undersigned http://www.petitiononline.com/aoalert/petition.html [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 21, 2005]

While I sympathize, stuff happens and pesticide dangers are better understood now than when the sparying started in the 1950s--they days when people were often sprayed without knowing the dangers.

People rarely find out they are being used--this is one of those occasions, and there isn't much that can be done.

It is right that everyone sprayed without considering the results back in the 50s & 60s. Later when the government discovered the dangers they chose to hide & deny when asked for information. This left people and doctors NOT KNOWING what caused an illness or how to treat the problems. Should we, Canadians, have to investigate our own government to 'find' and 'prove' the information that is needed to protect our health? The government is built of people that we elected to protect all Canadians and we should be able to trust our representatives. The government is responsible because of the secrecy and lies when they could have been honest and in doing so, lives could have been extended, medical services may have been able to prevent some of the illnesses. It has taken 40 years for the government to even admit that this chemical spraying started in the 50s or that the chemicals are/were dangerous.
If you think it is right for our Government to lie to Canadians then don't sign BUT if you want your Government to be honest and open and protect ALL Candians then take a moment to stand up and speak up by signing the petition.

I live close to the railraod that is going to be spayed on Vancouver Island. Like many people have said "Are we in Viet Nam" and why don't people learn anything from history?
We all know the problems that occured in the Viet Nam war with agent orange and yet we have idiots that still want to use this stuff on the loose in society. There will be another election in BC.

I would like to see Doctor Suzuki become involved in this agent orange Fact Finding Commission, I am sure that he would add a real educational picture to this whole dam mess.
May our children have the intelligence and the forsight to save our planet from these terrible unknown deadly man made killer products in the future.

There are those who we have elected in the past as we have elected in the present who do not care what they leave behind, as long as they fill their pockets with cash today. My question to them is when your gone from this planet, what good is the money you will leave behind in your estate, if your children cannot go out side because the air that you left behind is to dirty for them to breath?

What beach will they be able to swim at, because the beaches you left behind are not fit to swim in, what good are those dollars, to a planet that you left behind is dying? For Gods sake wake up.
