Opposite View On US "Civilians" Killed In Iraq

Posted on Friday, April 02 at 19:22 by Flick
It is important to refer to these folks, however, as combatants... hired mercenaries, defending occupation institutions and personnel in exchange for cash money. Not "civilians" or "contractors." Interesting that brownish "irregulars" from Afghanistan and Iraq have been held at Guantanamo Bay without Geneva Convention protection, as "terrorists" and "unlawful combatants." Because they defended their homeland without a uniform. What is the legal status of the US-hired mercenaries in Iraq?

VILLAGE VOICE ARTICLE ABOUT THE KILLINGS

INDYMEDIA stuff about the mercenaries

This link has another copy of the V.V. story, but be aware that some of the links, from it, lead to rather grisly images. It's on a much more radical news site called "News from Babylon."

Thought I'd add a comment, since the front-page teaser for the article
doesn't make it obvious that there are links and it's not just me ranting
    on.

    :-)

This way maybe people will come check out the article for the comments
    and discover the links!

Sorry, no Sympathy here. These guys were hired mercs from Blackwater.<p> They get paid $300,000 a year because the job is risky. They knew the risk, and the Iraqis knew exactally who they were. The locals set them up, ambushed them and killed them because of the fact they were not regular US military. They had no backup.<p> But the regular media won't tell you that. Nor will it answer the question "Why Do They Hate Us?".<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

    Why do "They" hate "Us"??

Who knows?? I mean, why would ANYONE in Iraq hate an invading occupying military that's robbing the country of its natural resources?

And ditto on the sympathy. Mercenaries belong in Conan books and nowhere else. The very concept of receiving money in exchange for taking someone else's life is disturbing and sickening. I feel like vomitting when I think about it. Just picture it... Look into someone's eyes. Reach up. Slit their throat. Watch as the eyes open in shock, then glaze over. And someone passes you a wad of cash.

So sick. They kill for money. Not only are were they "aware of the risks". They had it coming. The only difference between a mercenary and an assassin is that mercenaries work in groups.

Actually these mercenaries, private security, whatever you want to call them have proved to be useful in West Africa, the legitimate outfits, not the African ones. It's a big media deal when uniformed troops from the West, wether they are peacekeeping or peacemaking, fight with the locals, so they avoid conflict and gangs are free to terrorize the populace. The media doesn't normally care too much about the private security forces however, which means that they can engage the troublemakers before anyone gets ambushed. The local populace appreciates and understands the need for their services, they're happy to see the roving gangs of thieves and rapists rounded up or dead. It's not an ideal solution, especially in our Western eyes because it's extra-judicial, but for the people that live in these places it's a practical solution that they appreciate, especially if it means their children won't be mutilated and raped.

Wow, who is this anonymous guy. Yea, I am sure that people in Africa just love roving bands of thugs who are not held accountable for their actions. Yea, the tonton macoutes are greatly loved by the peasants in Haiti too. The only thing wrong with right wing death squads is that they are called right wing death squads, if we could just get the remaining 40-50 actual reporters left in the world to call them mercenaries instead of right wing death squads then everything would be just fine.
    Aint that right Anonymouse?

Milton, the legitimate security forces that have been employed in some of the West African nations have brought a measure of stability to an otherwise completely lawless society where gangs quite literally rape and pillage. The populace has appreciated the presence of these security forces and because they are well paid private firms who do not employ locals, the security forces themselves have no interest in involving themselves in the country's gov't or economy. Peacekeepers brought in from other African nations always get involved in the politics or economy of the nations they occupy causing more harm than good.
Perhaps you don't follow current events, but, just to let you know, the Tonton Macoutes haven't existed for quite some time and how you can consider them a legitimate security force is beyond comprehension. They were thugs employed by the Duvalier regime in Haiti to terrorize political opponents in case you didn't know. Right/Left wing death squads are obviously employed for political destabilization reasons and are not security forces in any sense of the word either, it may be hard for some people to understand these distinctions but it is necessary if practical solutions are to be found.

Sorry to take so long to reply. The tonton macoutes seem to be back in Haiti again. My point is that it is all done in the dark, anonymously, no trial, no rights. I like it to be out in the open where it can be observed by us. I don't want anybody running around behind my back killing people to protect me from them. I want the arms manufacturers and retailers arrested and put in jail, tried, convicted and kept in jail.
