someone said that the only difference between the foreign policies of Nazi Germany & the US is that the US has gotten away with it for 60yrs, but I don't see the point in labelling people or namecalling. that sort of stuff doesn't win any allies if you ask me.

If it looks like a rose and smells like a rose, then in all likelihood it is a rose.

It's 'Fascist', not 'Facist', and Modern America has very little in common with it.
It's made an asshole of itself for ~60-70 years, but it's not quite what I would compare to Facism... er, Fascism.
That's the dumbass hippie thing to say. It's the only thing they know how to do. It's the last refuge of scoundrels.

yup, perfect score. But let's be June Cleaver about it. If we can't just call a rose, a "rose", how about "bush enhancer"?

We've been through this theme on the website before, ALL states are fascist. Fascism simply means that the state's rights supercede all others, specifically individual rights. Here in Canada do some research on the protests of the 90's, there have been massive protests with illegal arrests going on all over the place. Jaaghi Singh was virtually hounded and harassed until he ceased his political opposition.

Fascism has a specific connotation now thanks to Germany, but that is largely because of the holocaust. Of course, many other regimes enact genocidal policies (including Canada in its bureaucratic ways) and most states have adopted the propaganda and security measures the Nazi's used which were successful-in fact in many cases former Nazi's helped form the policies.

Like most political terms everybody who opens their mouth on the subject will have a little different interpretation of what the term means. Liberals (capital L) are supposed to be the most fascist of all according to many commentators. Fascism isn't even necessarily a bad thing, depending on the culture which it has superceded. If Canada were a collection of provinces which were at constant war with one another and the formation of a state which superceded their rights were set up and enacted policies which ended the violence and began healing old wounds then that would be quite justifiable (at least to me). However, in reality Canada wasn't like that and our federal government isn't like that so the hypothetical situation doesn't really apply. Obviously the United States are far worse in this regard, we can look at many different policies which are horrendous, but no other country is squeeky clean either.
