David Pratt Responds To My Email Re: NMD

Canada and the United States have co-operated in the defence of North America for over 60 years, most notably through the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD). With our two countries continuing to work together to meet new challenges (for example, through the Smart Border Initiative and the Binational Planning Group), it is prudent to explore whether partnership in BMD might contribute even further to North American and Canadian security. On January 15, 2004, I exchanged Letters of Intent with the US Secretary of Defense regarding possible Canadian participation in the ballistic missile defence of North America. The letters do not constitute an agreement between Canada and the United States on Canadian participation; rather, they set out an agreed path for negotiations. Also, by facilitating Canadian access to US planning information, they will help Canada make an informed decision on participation. Our decision to explore participation in BMD complements traditional Canadian efforts in arms control and disarmament. Those co-operative efforts, whether in the form of diplomacy, export controls, or legal mechanisms, are all aimed at preventing states from acquiring weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them. Rather than starting new arms races as some allege, BMD hopes to deter potential missile proliferators by making it clear to them that expending their scarce resources on missiles will not buy them any real advantage. Once talks have been completed, the Government will take a principled decision based on Canadian interests and values. Any possible participation in BMD would not be unconditional. Negotiations would preserve Canada's long-standing policy of opposing the weaponization of space. This government takes seriously our responsibility to protect Canadian citizens and to ensure that we have a say in decisions affecting the defence of our people and territory. I appreciate being made aware of your views and trust the information I have provided is helpful. Yours sincerely, The Honourable David Pratt, P.C., M.P. 01579-01585-02334-03136 ************************ It seems the government doesn't care what Canadians want, they think they are protecting us. Personally, I think if we put missiles on our soil, we automatically become a greater target. Just my opinion.

    - Our decision to explore participation in BMD complements traditional Canadian efforts in arms control and disarmament.

Exploration of new armament and armament defences does NOT complement arms control and disarmament. It is the END of our traditional policies.

    - Those co-operative efforts, whether in the form of diplomacy, export controls, or legal mechanisms, are all aimed at preventing states from acquiring weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.

This is not diplomacy, export controls or legal mechanisms. It is Weaponization! and it does not stop enemies from producing nuclear missiles, but rather forces them to build better ones.

    - Rather than starting new arms races as some allege, BMD hopes to deter potential missile proliferators by making it clear to them that expending their scarce resources on missiles will not buy them any real advantage

See above, and how about spending our own scarce resources on a system that will be to our disadvantage. Apparently Bush has no qualms of spending half a trillion dollars a year of his citizens childrens taxes.

Send off your emails to Pratt letting him know we disaprove

I swear, this Liberal government is Orwell meeting Monty Python!

I think our government cares about what the US government wants and what global corporations want. Our Prime Minister turned his own corporation into a global corp and then gave it to his sons. How much tax do you think they paid on that deal? How much tax do you think he paid to move the CSL out of Canada? Do you think he does not have interests in the continued well being of his son's business? If the government were/are going to give the Census to Lockheed Martin, why wouldn't they throw some extra business their way or to some other global death wish corp.s? We need to dump this Parliamentary government bullshit and institute government by referendum.

I think we should send a copy of the article on vive, 'Dom Stasi on missile defence' to Mr. Pratt and all of the rest to let them know we can read; not just their emails but real information.

I still have had no response to this question from Mr. Martin, Mr. Pratt, or Mr. Graham. Why are we spending time and ultimately money on a security system that cannot be proven to work while we already have spent untold $s on NORAD that doesn't keep us secure? Why didn't NORAD and the Canadian at the helm protect the citizens that were hijacked and killed on Sept.11th? Where were the intercepting aircraft?

I don't believe there is ANY system that can keep people secure. If people are so damn afraid of being what? Bombed? Shot? Hijacked? Bear Hugged? Tickled to death? Whiplashed? Hit with a puck? Baseball? Toppled off their bikes? ah, bitten by a mosquito, receiving a dusty letter, oh ya, and waking up!!!!! just go jump off a bridge now and let the rest of us LIVE IN PEACE AND FREEDOM!
