I'm not a Canadian, but I did live in Detroit for about 25 yrs. Does that count?

No, not Gordie Howe.

No, not Joni Mitchell - but close...

No, not some politician.

my vote: Glenn Gould

He may have been fairly wacky, personality-wise, but I consider him to be the foremost interpreter of J.S. Bach, on any instrument, from any time. (that we can know of from recordings, radio, etc...)

Thanks!

I voted for Prime Minister WILLIAM LYON MACKENZIE KING (1874-1950)

this is from the CBC site,

The shrewd, solitary politician introduced the idea of the welfare state, navigated Canada through World War II, brought in the baby bonus and unemployment insurance and juggled with consummate skill the divergent demands of this country.

He served as Prime Minister from,
1921 - 1926
1926 - 1930
1935 - 1948

I watched the show on Tommy this evening and I agree he was a great Canadian. Greater even than I knew. The show was very informative. I've been wondering where Canada's Chavez is and I'd have to say he was Canada's Chavez. Except that we never appreciated him as well as we should have and he deserves a statue of honour.

I loved Turdeau too, but the funniest part of the whole program was the debate between Trudeau and Douglas. I just cracked up over the look on Trudeau's face. And, I never knew Trudeau had once been a NDPer.

Tommy Douglas. Creator of public health care, first in Saskatchewan, then throughout Canada. Tommy Douglas gets my vote.

Want the opinion of an American (provincial definition, US citizen)? I didn't think so.

Anyway, I like Tommy Douglas. I wish someone like him could be elected here. Maybe after we have had our fill of Hitler Youth conservatives.

Choosing 'The Greatest" anything is foremost a value judgement, and will always be divisive...

A better question is: Who is The Most Embarrassing Canadian?

Visit http://www.airenet.com/TheLazyK/TMECIntro.htm to nominate an embarrassing Canadian, and to vote for your favorite!

Why tear the nation apart quibbling over greatness...let's unite the nation in self-deprecation.

I think the CBC accomplished its goal - getting people to and talk about something other than hockey! Unfortunately they missed an opportunity to allow Canadians to really get involved in the debate - there are no message boards on the CBC site !?
Luckily this Greatest Canadians fan site has stepped in. This should be a wild debate!
PS my vote goes to Tommy Douglas

why the greatest? and if you want to vote on the greatest, it's definitively not loud mouthed Don Cherry. And what happened to the girls? The point of my comment is that the show is a joke...you can decide on one great person...everyone contributes diferently.
