The former federal finance minister was one of a handful of high-profile Liberals parachuted into the province Wednesday to launch Beatty's campaign and help quell the controversy that has developed around her candidacy.
Beatty, a former NDP cabinet minister in Saskatchewan and the first aboriginal woman ever elected to the provincial legislature, was appointed by Dion to run in the March 17 byelection last week, foregoing a nomination process that would have included Orchard and angering his supporters.
