Freedom Of Speech ?? Only In Canada...Eh

"I would have hoped by now that I would be able to put my work out to the public without having to experience the profound censorship obstacles I often seem to encounter," Moore wrote Wednesday in a statement on his Web site (www.michaelmoore.com).

Miramax confirmed that Disney told the company it can't release the film. In Canada, Alliance Atlantis had planned to release the film theatrically this July. But a spokesman said Wednesday that they had Canadian rights only through Miramax and so had "no current course of action other than to wait and see how it proceeds."

...In the past Moore has turned to Canada for financing of projects that U.S. sponsors and broadcasters wouldn't touch.

In 2000, Bravo aired his satirical series The Awful Truth that poked fun at the corruption in corporate America and included such controversial sketches as Teen Sniper School. It was produced by Halifax's Salter Street Films and Britain's Channel 4. Bowling For Columbine was also underwritten by Salter Street before the company was bought by, and folded into, Alliance Atlantis.

    This is great news for Canada, so far, we have actually been the country of choice for Michael Moore's free speech, too bad he can't get that in the supposed 'free-est' country in the world; I wonder what that makes Canada 'the free-er-est Country! Anyway sad to say that the movie which will reveal the secrets the masses never hear is being censored by Disney and according to Moore- all because Jeb Bush is the Gov of Florida and might not give Disney the tax breaks it wants; once again corporations controlling the people!

    Common Dreams has a link to Disney to email your protests to this sensorship. Disney also said it has viewers of all political stripes and they don't want to lose any by taking on a controversial issue. I told them if they don't reconsider I'll be asking CBC to remove Wonderful World of Disney from their Sunday programming. They should also be told that it's no longer just their park rides that are making people barf!

    The thing about Disney is, and I don't have the facts so maybe someone else does, have they never made a film which was politically incorrect? Do they always consider those that might be offended? I don't know all the disney products but it seems that this is a rather lame excuse. Is this a bit like the Ronald Reagan story being censored by the t.v. station?

    If Disney 'pulls the plug' the movie will still be released, no doubt there. Mira max will have to split the profits and THAT will hurt the coffers of the democratic party. This will get out, make money but if it can be delayed or at least cut the profits going to the Democrats then this will be a successful ruse by Jeb for his brother. Disney is a pawn.

    It's exactly the same. Everyone is so damn afraid of their govenment that the brave new world we used to know as the USA has been exposed for what it really is. "WE CAN SHOP YOU TO DEATH." "BLING, BLING."

    This goes to show that the new paradigm of corporate control over all factions of our existance will restrict us in ways unimaginable even 20 years ago. As the process of privatization of all public-owned assets continues, we can expect our freedoms to deminish. Maybe there is a mathamatical formula for privatization?

    As the proportion of privatization increases, our freedoms decrease exponetially!

    Let P = Privatization
    F = Freedom

    Now.... P = 1/F^P

    (flashback to high school math... I knew it would come in handy someday!)
