Border Insecurity

Posted on Thursday, January 20 at 22:22 by Anonymous
...Cars coming from Canada going into the United States illegally are likely to be chased down by police, or even a Blackhawk helicopter patrolling the border between Quebec and New York state. U.S. security has been stepped up since 9/11. But cross back into Quebec without stopping, and border guards say chances are, you'll get through... ...Last year the RCMP suspended its routine patrols along Quebec's border with the U.S. The national police force says resources are better used investigating serious criminals... Why worry? Just enjoy one of the benefits of utter unimportance in the global scheme of things.

The drivers may have no respect for Canadian law or sovereignty, they may be drunk, they may be drug smugglers, they could even be terrorists - who knows? In any case they are driving around our neighbourhoods right now.

Pathetic security doesn't even begin to describe this situation because there is no attempt at providing security - the government doesn't even seem to care. Sovereignty is apparently irrelevant to Canadians.

You Canada haters, if you dislike it here so much and you can only find fault in everything Canadian, why not just move away and be done with it? The Canada hating party you all support will never form a majority, so what are you all waiting around for?

They think they can force our hand with a minority. But I have a simple solution. Have large heavy barriers block the entrance into Canada and arm the border guards. I`m tired of terrorist thugs bringing illegal handguns into Canada!

Smuggling, of people, contraband, drugs, and what not, has become a significant part of the economy of Canada. To stop would cause havoc, pure and simple. And the politicos know it. When (for instance) the marijuana trade in BC is worth some $5-7 billion a year, despite the "best" efforts of the law, imagine removing that sum from the regional economy. And all the Black Hawk helos haven;t put a dent in bringing pot INTO the States. And all the Agent Orange being used in Columbia hasn't slowed the cocaine traffic either. The only way to stop this kind of thing is to make it a buyer's market, and not a seller's. Basic free enterprise that government hasn't cottoned onto yet. Or maybe it has.............

Hasn't slowed the drug traffic? Please.

    Know the facts...

Since Sept 11 there has been a increase in marijuana trafficing from Canada to the U.S..

Cocaine use is also on the rise in the U.S.. It is not domestically grown, so put two and two together now and please take a second to better inform yourself.

What does this have to do with people who hate Canada? Is any kind of criticism of how poorly the country is run 'un-Canadian' or something, because it reflects badly on the Liberal party - the only ones allowed to be 'real Canadians'?

McCarthy would be proud. Perhaps the Liberals and their media should set up an 'un-Canadian activities' investigative commission and purge any voices critical of Liberal policies, or lack thereof.

This bunch of anons post here NOTHING but contempt for Canada and everything it stands for. I have yet to hear one iota of praise for this nation that whether you like to hear or not is actually admired around the world.

I am not even a supporter of the Liberal Party, but that is just it - in your haste to hate anything "Liberal" which by extension means anything Canadian it would seem, you have allowed your judgement to be clouded.

Only in Canada will you see people lining up to blame "liberals" for a few idiots running the border. It happens all over the world, get over it. We could put a million people to watch the border and there WILL STILL BE people stupid enough to try to run it.

The contention is that Canada Customs does not have the mandate to apprehend them after they cross. But that is totally lost on those just looking to 'blame Canada' and those damn 'liberals'.

The money wasted on the national health service and gun registration should be put to better use policing the borders.

There is contempt for the way the Liberal Party is ruining Canada, and that's pro-Canadian. But you say that contempt for Liberals is by extension contempt for Canada, and that reveals your bias toward the Liberal Party - and your contempt for Canada when it is clear the Party fails Canadians.

Ever hear of the expression 'the buck stops here'? - it is an expression of taking responsibility for what is being allowed to happen in the country when you're in charge. The Liberals run this country, they are in charge and therefore responsible when things go off the rails - like not having any security over the borders.

Any casual observer can see that it is the Liberal Party promoting radical policies of all kinds that is changing Canadian society in many ways - if there is contempt for Canada, it is definitely found among Liberal Party supporters.

The Canadian government spends less on health care, per capita, than the American government. And even still all of our citizens are covered. I'd say, we're doing pretty well with our National system by comparison.

Now, I agree that the gun registry hasn't worked -- it didn't go far enough. Handguns ought to be banned entirely, and hunting and working rifles ought to be limited to rural regions. We should spend money to tighten the borders to protect ourselves from the American firearm blackmarket.

I remember being at a school in Windsor -- during the day -- when a hood from Detroit showed up with a trunk load of guns he was trying to sell. We were all between the ages of 8 and 11. We do need tighter border controls to keep this the ugliest aspect of American culture out.

When law-abiding Canadians have all been disarmed, only criminals will have guns. It will be worse than in Britain, where people are imprisoned for using firearms to stop intruders from battering their way into their homes.

Actually, the "worse" society you are referring to has one of the lowest murder rates in the world (tho, indeed, much higher than places where guns are even more controlled). The problem of criminals having guns in Canada is only a problem if they have a source to readily get their weapons. Guess where that source is? America hasn't the social maturity to tackle the weapons infestation. If we are going to lower the crime rate in this country, we need a higher fence to keep America's worst cultural export out.

"Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people."
You can quote me on that.
