Land Use Survey In Alberta - CPAWS

Posted on Tuesday, June 12 at 22:25 by whelan costen
CPAWS Northern Alberta feels what is necessary is to designate legislated protected areas representative of each natural subregion in Alberta, to help maintain the full diversity of species. To do this properly it is necessary to rely on best available science with respect to size and location of these areas. A strengthened protected areas network needs to be supplemented by more environmentally responsible land use practices on adjacent non-protected lands. The Land-use Framework will provide the context, overall direction and decision-making framework to govern and manage land use in the province. It will guide land-use decisions on all lands (Crown and private), except federal lands such as national parks and Indian reserves. The framework is intended to meet Albertans’ long-term social and economic goals based on good environmental management. A background publication, titled Understanding Land Use in Alberta, and a Land-use Framework Workbook, are available to all Albertans at a number of locations around the province, including all MLA constituency offices, most municipal and provincial/regional government offices, as well as online. Albertans can check the website at www.landuse.gov.ab.ca or call 310-4455 toll free to find the nearest pick-up location. Albertans can participate by attending one of the public sessions or by completing a workbook questionnaire in person or online. Albertans’ input will be used in the next stage of the framework development. The government’s goal is to have a draft framework completed by the end of 2007. I did the online survey and found it to be easy to do, although it takes a bit of
time as the questions are really critical. There is a place for comments, and you
don't have to give your name, just first three digits of postal code.

I hope many who haven't yet participated do so before the deadline. If we are
serious about a future for the next generation, I think we need to speak out,
    now!

I agree with what you say, good post Catherine, thanks for finding it in time for us to be able to respond.

You're welcome Milton, I just hope that as many Alberta viewers on vive go and
do the survey. It is something we can do to make a difference. I wish I had
known before now. They probably sent it but my email can get a little thick from
    time to time.

A bit late to post this on the 12th of June, three days prior to the deadline for comments...........

Better late than never....I posted it when I got it....whether the government did
all they could to get the word out is not for me to say. Hopefully as many people
as possible will do the survey. Two days is better than two hours notice. I would
guess it takes about 1/2 hour if you are considering your answers carefully. I
didn't time myself, so could be more or less...we do what we can with what we
    are given...
