Pratt Says NDP Is Fear -Mongering

Similar info to a post here already however this article shows how hard the NDP is working on behalf of Canadians that do not want to join in on MDS. They're even stooping to "fear-mongering" as if Pratt isn't fear-mongering by insisting we need this ridiculous partnership. His threat to us if far greater than anything Alexa McDonough has to say.

Defence Minister David Pratt said Monday that Ottawa has not decided whether it would allow the United States to use Canadian soil for interceptor rocket launchers and accused the NDP of spreading unfounded fears about missile defence.

On the weekend, he said Canada is considering making some of its geography in the north available in lieu of a major cash contribution if the federal government decides to join the American program.

The NDP portrays this as a sovereignty issue when it\'s not. German sovereignty was hardly compromised by the presence of Canadian Bases in their country, to suggest that it was would be laughable to Germans. The Americans are not as omnipotent in reality as they are in some people\'s dreams. Partnership in defence, even between states of dissimilar size, does not mean that each state or either state is less sovereign, it\'s called co-operation, learning to live with your neighbours is not a bad thing.

I like living NEXT to my neighbours but, by virtue of living WITH someone they are an occupant and I\'m very particular about who I want to live with. Keep your missiles out of my home. The last time we had this occupant they left their rooms contaminated and didn\'t have the common decency to pay for the janitor. And this particular neighbour has been known to let its\' pitbulls shit on my passport and treat some of my good neithbours with complete disrespect. No, I will not let this neighbour move in without a very big fight!

I\'m with 4canada on this one. Maybe the US sees logic in responding to imminent oil depletion, savage global warming, and the most dangerous socio-economic trends imagineable by moving to ensure that it\'s the last one to get pulled under.

If our neighbors to the south want to hold an arms race, they can do it on their own streets. Here in Canada the speed limit is hunting rifles, in my opinion.

I think we have a lot of huge problems to face in the next few years. Why waste valuable time, resources, and attention on killing? It\'s wrong, it\'s against Canadian values, and it spells out the certain doom of any semblance of a society in the near future. War will only accelerate the problems we face. No one worries about killing trees when they drop a nuke on a village. Lets do the right thing. Scrap the pointless weapons and work on developing the infrastructure necessary to outlive the effects of the actions of our parents. Take the money out of the militaries and put it in enviro-friendly technology, water purification technology, energy-harnessing technology, etc. I believe that the resources available can sustain the current population. All we need to do is develop technology that focuses on using resources WISELY rather than just trying to produce more. I hate to admit it, but Stronach was right in this one instance: All we need is a bigger pie. Or rather, we need to take the pie and eat it instead of throwing it at each other.

And to all those pro-weapons (even defensive ones) types out there, we\'ve spent hundreds of years competing against one another in the hunt for new acquisitions. But now there are no new acquisitions. We\'re down to a limited resource base now. So instead of killing each other for the right to use resources and waste excess (and waste precious resources in doing so), why don\'t we figure out ways to use our resources more wisely?

I study engineering and sustainability and I\'m telling you this: it\'s possible. Our society\'s resource-use efficiency is despicable. And there\'s a reason for that. Our current society doesn\'t make the link between supply and demand. Our economic system is so arbitrary and imaginary that no one can grasp the ACTUAL cost of what they\'re consuming. When people talk about Missile Defense and the war on terrorism, think about it. Make the connection. There is a last-ditch attempt at world dominance in progress and if it succeeds, there wont\' be a world left to dominate. Or at least not a habitable one. Think about it. If we weren\'t so exploitative, then there wouldn\'t be any missiles pointed at us to begin with.

    Just a thought.

Agreed to a point, I don\'t think we need to take money out of military to support the environment; I very much believe we need the Canadian military as it functions at various levels domestically and as peace keepers abroad; the idea that having our friends missiles parked on our lawn, is hardly an expectation of friendship, we will only be adding to the hostility pointing at North America, already we are seeing other countries hurrying up to arm themselves. Look at the regions of Iraq which will be contaminated for about 6million or so years, once you make a mistake like that how do you go back??? It\'s only fear-mongering because they don\'t want us to think about the scary shit their getting us into!
